So, lets get started...here
are the ingredients you will need:
One box of Lipton Onion Soup
mix (laughs) that was easy eh?
No, there's more 1
or 2 beef bouillon cubes, oxo or whatever
2 medium onions, white or
yellow
1 clove of garlic,
pressed or chopped finely
some oregano
mozzarella cheese
sourdough bread, or be creative
pepper
2 or 3 litres of water
Preparation
Have a pot of water
on the stove, or if you're like me? You like a crock pot to make
soups and things. Either way, get the water on.
Chop up the onions, all fairly small lengths.
Take the oxo, the pressed
garlic and the pepper, throw them in the water.
Get a frying pan and add
just a bit of butter and all the chopped onions...I hope you didn't cry
too much chopping them up..*g*. You can have those cook just until
they are soft.and are starting to go transparent. We are going to
let them boil in the soup until they are soft and just disintegrate on
your tongue anyways.. That's the best..in Onion soup
Now add the box of oinion soup mix, try one package only at first and then see how it tastes after a while. It depends on how much soup you actually want to make, but like all my recipes, you can change amounts to suit your taste.
So once the onions have gone soft enough, you can add them to the water, mix, garlic, and pepper. Bring the pot to a high boil...so that everything is mixing by itself..and of course stir and taste it once in a while, but not so hot that it boils up and onto the stove.(I hate it when that happens *g*) Okay Everything is boiling away...
{Ronin takes out a pot of
the soup already made...as all cooking show hosts do)
Allright, this pot of soup
I made earlier today, so we can do the best part of making
French Onion Soup, the adding
of the bread and Mozzarella cheese.
Ok, to melt the cheese and
that on the soup, we are going to put it in the oven at about 300 degrees,
just to melt the cheese and mabye brown the top of it...just slightly.
{Ronin ladels some broth
into a crockery bowl meant for Onion soup)
This thing is going to be
in the oven, so please use oven safe bowls and that right? Gets pretty
hot in there...and same goes with taking it out. Get a pot holder,
and you can just pull the bowl off the rack, and slide it onto a waiting
plate or cutting board.
Anyways, got off topic there....on
to the cheese. Grate about 1/3 a cup of cheese for each...yes each
bowl of soup, tear a piece of sourdough or whatever bread you got,
so that you can fit it in the bowl...just submersed in the soup.
Add you cheese to the top of this,.... and then just sprinkle some oregano...on
the top. *Grins*...thought I forgot about the oregano didn't
you?
This adds a great flavour,
and looks nice at the same time.
So have fun making my Onion
soup...and we'll see you next time...
