“Avery has something that she would like to show you,” Jessica replied, still holding onto her sisters arm. “She’s to chicken or whatever you want to call it, to come and show you this, so I have to do it for her.” She continued on over to her mom with her sister struggling to get away. “Show her Avery!”
Avery just stood there with tears starting to form in her eyes. She shook her head, holding back her emotions.
“Avery, I won’t get mad at you, whatever it is, I promise. Please show me,” Mrs. Hanson told her scared daughter.
Feeling sick to her stomach from what her little sister was doing, Jessica took matters into her own hands. She lifted up her sisters’ shirt, and told her mom everything that Avery had just told her minutes previous.
The kind of concern that only a parent can have for a child spread across Mrs. Hanson’s face. “Avery, why didn’t you tell me about this earlier?”
“I didn’t want to give you another thing to have to worry about.” Avery turned to her sister, and said, “You promised me that you wouldn’t tell anyone. Jessica just walked off.
With the tears now running down her face uncontrollably, Avery turned back to her mom. “She promised me mom” is all that she could say, while in her mothers’ arms and as her mom stroked her hair.
