The Towne Sisters
In 1692 three of my relatives where accused of witchcraft.
Before each of them married they were know as the Towne sisters,
Mary, Sarah, and Rebbecca. They all lived around Salem Village
during the time of the Witch hunt or the Burning times as it has
been called. The Pictures you see here are two of the three sister
headstone. I found this picture at the Salem Witch Memoral web page.
The link for that is on my main page.
Mary Estey
This is my ninth great grandmother. She was accused and examined
on April 22, 1692. On May 18, 1692 was released to go back home to
Topsfield but was arrested again. She hung from the gallows on
September 22, 1692.
This was her plea to the court that she wrote from prison:
"I petition to your honors not for my own life for I know I must die...
but if it be possible that no more innocent blood be shed."
Rebbecca Nurse
Rebbecca Nurse is my ninth great aunt. On March 23,1692 she was accused
of being a witch. She was a respected memeber of her church but excommunicated
on July 3, 1692 due to the guilty verdict from her trail on June 30, 1692. On On July 19, 1692 she hung from the gallows.
This is her qoute from her trail:
"I can say before my eternal Father that I am innocent."
Sarah Cloyce
Another ninth great aunt. She was accused and examined on
April 11, 1692. She was imprisoned for a time but escaped
the execution and lived out her life in Framingham. That is why
you do not see a picture of her tomestone on my page.
