Understanding
Lyrics from "Iris" by none other than the Goo Goo Dolls. I don't own them. Don't sue.
“What did you want me here for?” Willow asked from behind the blindfold.
“Shh… just a little further.” Her companion said, leading her into the room. Then he slowly removed the blindfold and heard her gasp of surprise.
“Oh! You rented out the Bronze…for me?” He nodded and laughed.
“Wait ‘til you see what else I got for you, Willow.” The lights on stage came on suddenly to reveal the Goo Goo Dolls. Willow’s eyes softened with adoration for the vampire who had done all this for her as they started to play.
“This song goes out to a very special redheaded witch, from her dark admirer.” John Rzeznik said with a laugh before launching into the song.
And I'd give up forever to touch you
'cause I know that you feel me somehow
You're the closest to heaven that I'll ever be
And I don't wanna go home right now
Willow wrapped her arms around her boyfriend’s neck and whispered, “Thank you.” He wrapped his arms around her waist as they danced slowly.
And all I can taste is this moment
And all I can breathe is your life
And sooner or later it's over
I just don't wanna miss you tonight
I love her, he thought. It’ll never work out, but I love her. Willow sighed as she rested her head on his shoulder.
And I don't want the world to see me
'cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
No one would ever understand either of them for pursuing this. It was almost foolish, a vampire and a mortal. She was so innocent, so fragile, that he couldn’t help but want to protect her.
And you can't fight the tears that ain't coming
Or the moment of truth in your lies
When everything feels like the movies
And you bleed just to know you're alive
They let the music carry them, help them forget all their differences. Even if it were only for one night, they were both just pawns in the game that love was.
And I don't want the world to see me
'cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
“I love you.” He heard whispered in his ear. He almost thought he’d imagined it, but she sighed and repeated it. “I love you.”
And I don't want the world to see me
'cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
She loved him? How could she love a person like him? He’d killed people in numbers too large to count, many with his bare hands, all in very violent manners, and all without the slightest hint of remorse. And she loved him, despite that. A tear slid down his face unnoticed.
And I don't want the world to see me
'cause I don't think that they'd understand
When everything's made to be broken
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
I just want you to know who I am
The song’s last chords echoed through the room as they slowly stopped their dance. “I love you too, Willow.” He murmured, kissing her softly. “I love you too.” The stage darkened again as the band left the stage and they were left alone in the room, still in their embrace, as both of them finally understood and left it in silence.
