1) Posters must have one main idea. The idea can be sophisticated, but it must be presented simply. (ex: "Every Body Needs Milk!" & "Left Turns Ahead")
2) Keep words to a minimum- usually less than five.
3) Avoid using pencil, ball-point pen, typewritten material, Day-Glo, regular size (3x5 or 4x6) photos. Broad felt-tip pens, India ink, paints, large cut-outs, and bright construction paper work best. Collages will be accepted in Upper and Lower Valleys. Make sure materials are durable, can be moved without destruction, and that raised material is not more than 1/8".
4) Don't use too many colors that clash. Three colors are often enough, and they should be harmonious. Colors should be pleasing to the eye.
5) All posters must be designed on or affixed to standard poster board of 14" X 22" dimensions. They may be horizontal or vertical. (Some colors, such as white, are not good for TV.)
6) The 4-H member's name, age, full address, grade in school, leader's name, club name, and a brief artwork interpretive statement must be affixed to the back of the poster board in the upper left-hand corner.
7) Avoid use of commercial cartoons (ex: "Peanuts" or "Disney"). If there are five changes made by the member in a commercial design, it is considered acceptable for submission.
8) If stencils are used to make lettering, it is suggested that they be filled in.
9) All top ten county entries will receive special recognition in the County 4-H Poster Art Program.
10) Our fairs offer other opportunities to display member's current project poster. Check your premium books for specific requirements.
