THE APPLE
The apple is the most
popular fruit in countries such as Great Britain. It contains a lot of
minerals and vitamins. Some types of apples are eaten raw while others are
cooked. Some apples are used for making cider or vinegar.
Being rich in iron and
phosphorus, the apple is effective in the treatment
of anemia while raw apples are good for constipation. Those
who are having diarrhea would benefit from taking cooked or baked
apples. If you need an appetizer
or tonic for the stomach, shredded apples mixed with honey and sesame
seeds would work wonders.
Apples with honey, are
also believed to be able to cure heart disorders and excellent
for rheumatism, gout
and arthritis. Eating apples regularly
also helps to prevent tooth decay, as the acid in the apples acts as an
antiseptic on the gums and teeth.
Well, if you would like to be healthy and who doesn’t
just eat more apples, for it certainly seems that an apple a day keeps the
doctor away.

My Village
I like in village
called Kampung Pasir. It is a fisherman village.
Most of the man in my
village are fisherman. Only a few of them are farmer. The woman of my
village stay at home. Same of them, however, grow some vegetables in their
garden.
The people of my village live a hard life. They depend an the sea
for their food and money. For General
months in the year the sea is very rough. Fish is hard to catch at
that time. The people then suffer a great dial. Some times, storms break
out and destroy many homes. Some of the people have even been drowned in
thee sea.
When I grow up ,I
shall certainly leave my village. I shall take my parents , brothers and
sisters along and live in a town or city.

The Rose
The
rose is said to be the most beautiful flowers in the world. Some people
like to give red roses to those whom
they like. Roses came in many colours. They may be pink, red, white or
yellow.
The
rose plant is a bush. It can grow up to almost one and a half meters high. The
leaves are small and there are plenty of thorns on the stem. You have to be very careful when you touch a rose plant or you might prick you
fingers.
The
scent of a rose is very nice. Many people like to keep roses in their hair
so that their will smell noise
too. Many perfumes are also made from the scent of roses.
People
also use rose petals to flavor food such as syrup and sweet dishes. The fruit of a rose, called rose hip can also be used for this purpose.
Growing
rose bushes is not easy. You have to look after them very carefully. The flowers do not last very long once they are cut from the
bush. They wilt in
two or three days time.

THE
MOCKING BIRD
The
mocking [imitating] bird of America is named as such because it
imitates the songs of other birds. They can imitate perfectly the bluebird's
song, the calls of the whippoorwill and the screams of the eagle and the
jays.
The
mocking bird is found all over the United States. It belongs to a family
of American birds and looks very much like a thrush [a type of song bird]. It
is ash-gray in colour above and white below, a black tail edged
with white. The cock and the hen are very much a like. They are about nine
to eleven inches long.
Its
large nest, built in a bush or low tree, is made of twigs, leaves and roots. The
hen bird lays about three to six eggs which are usually
bluish-green and speckled [marked with spots] brown.

MY BEST FRIEND
I have many friends. My
best friend is an Indian girl. Her
name is Jamuna. She is twelve years old. She lives near my house. We do not go to the same school.
Jamuna and I
meet in the evening every day. We play all kinds of games together with our
other friends.
Jamuna
is a clever girl. She is also a good girl. Her father is a doctor. Her mother
is a teacher.
Like me, Jamuna likes reading very much. We go to the library every
Saturday. We read as many books as we can in the library.
Jamuna
is indeed a wonderful friend.
