The purpose of this project is to better understand the History of Africa through its art and culture.

The goals of this project are to:
  1. Study and learn about African History
  2. Learn about African Art History
  3. Study the intricate meanings of African Art.
  4. Better understand and appreciate African Art and its place in the development and representation of African culture and History.




After we better appreciate a small portion of African History, your task will be to develop your own sample of African Art complete with a report discussing its meaning, regional style and influence and historical importance and significance.

We will start with an in class portion of the Africa study. You will be required to read and comment on the articles in the Africa: A Virtual Tour. After you have taken the African Virtual Tour and studied some of the African art provided in the Resources section below you will need to:

We will conclude this project with an African Art Exhibit where you will display your work.
