Rose-Colored Glasses

Your life has been full: I know, I know;
You're so much older: I know, I know;
But the glasses you wear are so deeply rose.
It's all characters in a book you wrote.
So: don't try to blind me to what I know is there,
Beyond your petal-pink stereoscopes
And 'naturally' ungreying hair,
Because I know the ropes;
I've been aware of all of them since I arrived
Nearly ten years ago.
I don't want to be trapped behind windows
Because I need air to survive.
You will not hang me in your entanglement of regulations
And conservative reservations.
I see, and without glasses; at least, not rose-colored ones.
So don't make me a character in your book:
Take off your glasses NOW... and look...
