SUMMERTIMES

             Sitting by my window
With a cane by my side.
             The sun warms my body,
Takes my spirit for a ride.

             Swooping through my memories,
Like a gull o'er the sea.
             Searching all the seasons
For the place I want to be.

             When butterflies flutter by
             And summer's all in bloom,
Barefoot boys with balls and bats
             Come trooping thru my room.

A swimming hole deep and pure,
             The river burbling by,
             Squeals and laughter echoing
             Bring forth a tender sigh

             Delightful days of summertime
Shout away the gloom of age.
             They warm my brittle bones,
             Release me from my cage.

             This life is almost over,
Yet I hurry back with glee,
To run thru all the summertimes
Once more, barefoot, young and free.
