As Olaf Svenson brought his boat to a halt, he looked about him. Nothing. He could still see the shore of Svenland, but there were no sign of the Dark Elf ships... no sign of Cordain... nothing.
Olaf looked at the sun, judging the time of day... yes, it was right. Perhaps he meant a different day entirely... was it supposed to be today, or tomorrow? Oh well... he isn't here now. Hopefully, a mug of ale would clear his head.
As Olaf turned to row back to shore, the tentacles began to rise up around his small craft...
Olaf is a Norse King (140 pts)
M WS BS S T W I A Ld 4 6 6 5 4 3 6 4 10
Equipment:
Talisman with the Arcane Rune of Stone (+1 T, -1 I) and two Common Runes of Glory (+1 WS) (70 points)
Dragon Axe: Each hit becomes 2 hits (50 points).
Oaken Shield of Odin: The Oaken Shield of Odin stands in the way of enemy attacks, preventing them from striking him directly. Only by striking swiftly can one penetrate it's defenses and attack the bearer. (75 points). If the attacker has a greater Inititive than the bearer, he loses 1 attack (unless he has only 1 attack, in which case there is no effect). If the attacker has an equal inititive, he loses half his attacks (round up). If the attacker has a worse inititive, he may only make 1 attack against the bearer (attackers with worse inititives and only one attack may not strike the bearer).
King Olaf wears Light Armour, and has an Armour Save of 5+ (Light Armour and Shield).
The Sea Monster has a total of 8 Tentacles. It will attack with D6 tentacles each round, and if any have wrapped about Olaf's boat, will keep those wrapped around as well. Please note: The total number of tentacles severed, wrapped around the boat, and attacking can never exceed 8.
Olaf goes first each round. Since the battle is all hand to hand combat, Olaf and the Monster do not get separate turns, just take one h2h round each turn. The Tentacles are: WS 5 T 5 W 2 I 5 (thus, of the D6 tentacles, 1 will not attack each round because of the shield). The Tentacles do not attack Olaf directly, they seek to wrap the little boat and pull it down.
Olaf must declare if he is attacking the attacking tentacles or tentacles already wrapped about the boat (or splitting his attacks between them, in similar manner to fighting both troopers and characters). Olaf is +1 to hit tentacles already wrapped about the boat.
Each tentacle not 'killed' by Olaf wraps about the boat. Keep track of how many tentacles are wrapped around the boat. At the end of each turn, roll a D6 and add the number of tentacles wrapped around the boat. On an 8+, the boat is pulled under and Olaf dies.
Continue combat until the boat is pulled under, all 8 tentacles are severed, or until 5 turns have passed.
