Since I've never watched Gunbuster before, this review is done by my friend Mr. Dragon Cuisine (who still wants to kill me for writing a bad Slayer's review). Well, anyways, here it is:
Okay, Gunbuster is definitely my all time favorite. I’ve seen this several years ago, and through all the Anime that I’ve watched, this has still remained on top! The story line is very very very good! It keeps you watching until the end. The theme of the story is not one theme that is carried out throughout the entire series, but instead has many themes presented to the watcher. The summary is mainly, the first time man has gone past the speed of light (Insert Einstein’s theory of Relativity Here) and into outer reaches of space. The first Earth built space fleet is then sent out to “where no man has gone before!” However, as the fleet was in deep space, they were instantaneously destroyed by Alien forces. The Admiral of the Fleet, Admiral Takaya (Also the name of the OAV’s producer) was killed during the attack, leaving his 7 years old daughter Noriko. So now enter our hero: Noriko Takaya (Noriko is also the name of the Noriko Sakai, the one that did her voice, and awesome Jpop star! *sigh*) she is the daughter of Admiral Takaya, and is now in 17 (When watching keep in mind that this series implements and bases its story from the Theory of relativity). The story then takes off as Noriko changes throughout the story from being a dumb half wit girl, to the pilot of Gunbuster! The story it self is so spectacular that there is no way to describe it and give it justice with just words, you’ll just have to watch it. And finally if your really a big Anime fan, you can even pick off some of parodies that they have of other Animes.
Fun Facts:
In between each episode there is a science lesson. They mainly teach about relativity, but is very funny(so funny that sometimes I spend my time watching only that, and even downloaded them from the internet....took me an entire day!) But some also go into explaining the Gunbuster Universe.
The song are just amazing, it’s sung by Noriko Sakai, who was 17 or 18 at the time. Now she’s becoming very famous is Japan. I love the songs...my fav of all time!(You never get tired)
Most of the character’s names are the names of their Seiyuus, so it’s funny that way!
The last episode is done in Black and White and use a theater format for Dramatic purposes, and it works!
Sexual Content: None
Nudity: A little bit, not much. 3 scenes in the entire OAV I’m sure.
Story Line: The Best! It’s got everything! Don’t let me get into this anymore or else I won’t stop rambling! It’ll make you laugh, cry, and just completely fall in love with the characters!
Comedy: Mild comedy, those that are in there is good.
Violence: Only mecha damage, and non graphic suggestive deaths...very emotional deaths.. *sob*...and does a slap count?
Genre: Mecha, Drama,(It’s Beautiful man!*wipes tears from eyes*)
Total Rating: 15/10
