The colonies have always dissented against the Earth Federation's control. Conflicts between the Federation and the the militant group OZ that worked for the space colonies eventually led to a huge war until the peaceful Federation leader Heero Yuy gained support and brought peace between the colonies and Earth. Unfortunately, Yuy was assisinated by the Romefeller Foundation, an elite group of OZ officials who believed in perpetual anarchy, and the fighting between the OZ and the Federation commenced again. Fifteen years after the assasination, the war is still going on, and five young pilots are sent to earth with the single goal of restoring peace, even if it must be achieved by force. The main character is Heero Yuy (his codename is based on the assasinated Federation leader) who was trained since he was a child to be the "perfect cold and emotionless soldier." The other pilots include Duo Maxwell, Quatre Winner, Trowa Barton, and Wufei Chang.
My favorite thing about this series is the cool characters and the philosophies of both the good guys and the bad guys concerning war and peace. Actually, its hard to tell who are the good guys and who are the bad guys. At first, it seems pretty clear, but as the story progresses (and gets more confusing), you begin to wonder if there really are any good or bad guys. I love the cool quotes ! Anyways, Gundam Wing is currently being aired on the Cartoon Network in the US under the block Toonami. Unfortunately, my cable company doesn't carry the Cartoon Network. But then, I already have fansubs of the entire thing. There's not many differences between the Japanese version of Gundam Wing and the US dub, since they cut out surprisingly few scenes. Two things they did cut out were the original opening and ending songs which I think was a waste, since the songs are done by Two Mix, one of my favorite bands.
