I've never seen this anime, but here's Mr. Dragon Cuisine's review:
Yotoden takes place in Feudal Japan, where Ninjas have been declining in numbers, and where two of the last three major Ninja Schools have just been destroyed by demons. Enter Yotoden, the Heroine of the story. Her school was one of the one destroyed, and along with it her lover, who’s last deed was to give her the Dagger of the school. Anyway, the story is about the rise of demons and their desire for the rebirth of a demon god. However, the Dagger that Yotoden possesses with her, is one of the seals of the demon, and must be used in conjunction with the other three weapons to seal him again. But the story isn’t about getting the weapons if that’s what your thinking.
