The Danny Foundation has known for years that many cases are incorrectly diagnosed as SIDS. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) held a Round Table Conference in Washington DC on Soft Infant Bedding, SIDS and related issues. I attended the Round Table. It was very informative. The CPSC knows that many cases are incorrectly diagnosed as SIDS. Hopefully the situation will get better. Unfortunately, in addition to ignorance, there is a great deal of politics and corporate maneuvering involved here -- in other words, insurance companies and manufacturers would much rather have a diagnosis of SIDS because that leaves them off the hook. We have been fighting this behind the scenes for a long time. I am terribly sorry that your grandchild had a diagnosis of SIDS rather than a strangulation/suffocation death because of a crib sheet. Candle Lighting, the 2nd Sunday of December. Candles will be lit at 7 PM in every time zone in memory of all children who have died, producing a wave of light that will encircle the earth. As candles burn down in one time zone, it becomes 7 PM in another creating a virtual 24-hour memorial. Please join us in lighting a candle for our Angels.  |
