Free Chevy G20 Sportvan w/ 350 V8 & 3-Speed Manual

PLEASE NOTE: THIS FREE VAN IS LONG GONE!

I decided to leave this page up sort of as a memory of what we used for concerts, youth group, etc. for so many years...

This was my daily driver for a while, as well as serving as the get-around vehicle for 2 different Youth Groups. (Can you tell by the "custom" paint job?)

I don't have the nickles-and-dimes to keep it going, but I wonder if you have the TLC and Elbow Grease to make it work for you. Or if you can use the 350 that's in here for a project of your own...

The Story:

I bought this van in 1998 for $475 cash. Drove it to-and-from work every day between Mountlake Terrace and Redmond. Also, worked at a small radio station where we spraypainted it for a trip to the Creation Fest at the Gorge.

Used it to drive-around youth group in Duvall. They loved it. Spraypainted it again.

Several more summers at the Creation Fest at the Gorge, lots of camping trips, DJ gigs including Eastern Washington... And a new youth group in Woodinville. They loved it too, but never got around to painting it again!

Started having issues with fuel line. Hose is still mounted into the top of the gas tank, but it moves too freely. I believe it has come unattached on the inside. I'm not sure if there is a fuel sending unit it should be attached to.

Our church paid to have it fixed at a shop. The shop said it was the carb, not the gas tank. Installed a rebuilt carb for $450. I drove for a few weeks until it started having gas tank problems again.

(I know it's the tank because to get it to run, I detach hose from tank, blow in hose until I hear bubbles, reattach hose, and it starts right up. I was "OK" with this until one day when I got gasoline in my eyes & nose -- That was a bit scary...)

Shop said they'd fix it if I could tow it in. I don't have the money, so it has sat in my driveway for months.

Landlord wants it out of here.

He REALLY wants it out.

Good stuff:

STRONG Chevy 350 V8. NEVER had a lack of power. If you're doing 60 and want to pass someone, just put your foot down and hold-on. I would LOVE to put this engine in my Wrangler, but I just don't have the time right now. If you're looking to swap-in an engine, consider the cost of towing this thing to your place vs. picking something up from a junkyard...

Recent new brakes all around & Brake Master Cylinder, all at Les Schwab.

New fuel pump.

Some glass replaced

Consistent upkeep on oilchanges, fluids, tune-ups, maintenance

New left-front tie rod end, replacement bumper and steering gearbox -- Repairs due to a fender-bender.

Replaced radiator and thermostat.

Did I mention this has a 3-On-The-Tree Manual Transmission? This was so much fun to drive! I always had people asking me, "why do you keep shifting?" I'd answer, "Look, it has a clutch!" I did have to have a rod welded when part of the linkage broke -- It's mechanical, not a hydraulic clutch.

Here's the stuff a dealer wouldn't tell you:

It does NOT run right now. You're welcome to work on it in my driveway (in Bothell, near Canyon Park), otherwise you're going to have to tow it away.

Fuel line into gas tank is "loose" -- Once you get gas flowing in the line, it works fine, but if it sits at an angle too long, air gets in the line, and you have to literally shake the bubbles out to get gas flowing up to the engine. The line needs to be reattached inside the tank -- to the fuel sending unit (?)

Brakes will need new rotors eventually.

Carb needs to be re-torqued onto top of intake manifold. It's a powerful 4-barrel, recently rebuilt and seems adjusted pretty well -- But it has vibrated slightly loose, allowing air to leak-in, bypassing the mixture stage.

Heater fan is LOUD, and doesn't push much air through vents. Needs replacing.

Front windshild is cracked. It's been that way the whole time I owned it. I just deal with it!

Sliding side door functions, but could use replacement inside handle

Keys work on both front doors, but rear and slider door locks are sticky -- sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

I already swapped the battery out of it for my Jeep, but it had sat so long, it didn't work very well anyways. Needs new battery.

Tires are used and wearing. If you intend to get this back on the road, I probably have a mismatched set of 15-inch tires in the garage...

This thing is DIRTY right now, as it has sat in my driveway for months.

AGAIN, THIS FREE VAN IS LONG GONE. THANKS FOR LOOKING!

Dustin
