Being Ordained as a Buddist Monk

Before becoming a Monk

This was a temple just east of Bangkok called WAT SAMPHET. To be honest it wasn't my first choice of temples, nor my second... most temples won't take foreigners. ( They seem to forget that Buddha wasn't a Thai)

SONDIKAROW

When you ordain, you are given a "monk name" derived from Sanskrit the official language of Buddism in Thailand... My name was 'Sondikarow' which means; 'He who has peace'

Fully Ordained

The schedule of this temple was; up at four for meditation, work, more meditation, more work, lunch work and meditation, sleep at 11:00 pm, up at four...
