The Better Sex
Hosts: Bill Anderson and Sarah Purcell
Announcer: Gene Wood
Premise: The question wasn't really answered, but teams
played the "Statement or Bluff" cards from the Ripley's
Believe it or Not board game.
Rules: To begin, the challenging team sent up the first
of their six teammates, all the same sex. That person
listened to a statement read by their "host" and filled
in the blank at the end with the correct answer (provided
on a card) or made up one. The first two members of the
opposing team each decided whether they agree or disagree
with the statement. If there isn't a consensus, the
next in line voted. The two in consensus were then "in
jeopardy." The actual answer was then given. If the
guessing team incorrectly voted, they are out of the
round and participate no further. If the guessing team
was right, the reader is out, and the winning team picks
a team member to sit out. The team that won the question
then reads the next one, and the guessing moves down the line.
When an entire team is knocked out, the other team divides
$1000, and plays the bonus game.
In the bonus game, each team member read a question to 30 members
of the opposite sex, who then each voted as in the maingame. Those
who were wrong sit down. If after six questions, any audience
members remain standing, they divide $500, but if all 30 are knocked
out, the championship team divides another $5000.
Teams play until they lose twice, and a men's team won a record $26,000.
