Hollywood Squares '98
BONUS ROUNDS:
in the first few weeks of the show, the champion chose one of the nine stars and won whatever was inside that celebrity's envelope. Cash prizes from $5,000 to $15,000 were included, as well as various trips, but one star had a car.
After that, the champion had to answer one final question correctly to win the included prize, which could be anything from $5,000 in cash to a Lexus. The celebrity was given the three choices, and the champion had to agree or disagree to win the prize. If the champion was wrong, he won a $2,500 consolation prize. In season two and three, there was no consolation prize.
Season four's bonus game had the champ choose one celebrity who had a cash amount from $1,000 to $2,5000 or $5,000. Sixty seconds of questions, then double or nothing.
Season five changed the bonus game. In the first part, the contestant has thirty seconds to pick celebrities in the grid. After each star is called on, Tom reads a statement pertaining to the star. The champion must determine whether the statement is true or false, doing so with the standard "Agree" or "Disagree." Each correct judgment captures that star. After thirty seconds the number of captured stars is noted.
After the first portion, Tom and the champion go downstage to a board with nine keys. One of the nine keys will start a brand new car. For each correct answer in the 30 second game, one 'bad' key is eliminated from the group, turning out the light behind it. The champ picks a key, and if it starts the car, the champ wins it. If not, he gets $1,000 for each star captured in the first portion.
In addition, each time the champion comes back to the bonus game without having won the car, one additional key is removed from the pool. This continues until the champion is defeated, wins the car, or wins five days.
Once the car is won, the champion then plays for a safe filled with $25,000 in cash. If the cash is won, the next bonus prize is an around-the-world tour worth over $33,000. If the trip package is won, the fourth bonus prize is $50,000 in cash.
Season six had the same bonus game as season five, but with a few changes. Firstly, champions always worked from a board of nine keys, no matter how many return trips the champion had made. Each captured star was worth $500 if the prize was not won.
Finally the prize structure was decreased, in this order: $10,000 trip, $10,000 cash, new car (BMW, Porsche), $25,000 cash, World Tour.
TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS:
In season two, six five-game winners came back to play again. Play was as normal, except the Secret Square was worth $2,500 cash. The bonus game was also played for cash, from $5,000 to $15,000.
The two players who racked up the most money came back for a two-game final, playing by the same rules as the Semi-Final. In addition to the other cash won, the champion wins a bonus $50,000; and plays the bonus game for either $10,000 or $15,000.
In season three, eight four-game winners compete in a semi-final game. The two top winners return on Friday. The Secret Square prize was an actual prize, but was the same each day so no one has an advantage. The winner gets $25,000, and a Jaguar is among the prizes in the bonus game.
Season four's tournament was similar to that of the previous year, except that the bonus game winnings were taken into account. The final champion won a Mercedes-Benz in addition to the money.
Season five had a Wild Card Week to determine which also-ran would join the seven undefeated winners in the normal tournament. The safe held a $25,000 shopping spree until Friday, when it was replaced by a cruise on the Queen Elisabeth II.
The winner of the tournament played the bonus game, but won $50,000 after choosing one of the celebrities who then revealed the cash amount inside a sealed envelope.
Season six did not need the Wild Card week, but the final bonus game was played for $30,000; $50,000 or $100,000.
COLLEGE CHAMPIONSHIP
Each year from season two to five had fourteen college students taking on the game. Seven quarter-final games were played. The four contestants who won the most money (cash and prizes) move on to the semi-finals. The two winners play in the final game, where the winner there gets a bonus, as well as a nifty trophy. Secret square and bonus round prizes were added to the totals to determine who moved on.
In season four, the champion won a new car in addition to all of the money and prizes collected along the way.
In season five, the quarter-finals safe had $25,000 in savings bonds. The semi-finals had $25,000 cash, and the grand champion won a new Jeep.
