Pitfall

Host: Alex Trebek

Two contestants play a lame front game to see who gets to challenge the bridge for a chance at $5000 in prizes.

In the front game, two contestants have alternating guesses as to what was the most common response the studio audience just gave to a survey question. Four choices were given, and the player who chose the correct answer scored a point. Whoever got five points won the game.

In the Pitfall round, the player had 100 seconds to cross an eight section bridge. Each question answered correctly won $100 and crossed that section. Crossing the bridge won the prize package. Three of the sections were pitfalls, and dropped down to the first floor of the studio. This drop took 10 seconds of the player's time, and the player had to answer a second question to get by. To avoid this, the first player to score 1,3, and 5 points in the main game won a "pitpass" which could allow the player to cross safely. A pitpass must have been used right away upon reaching the section, or not at all. To help the player find the pitfall sections, the bridge lights flashed randomly: safe sections flashed twice, pitfalls once.
