Play Your Hunch
Host: Merv Griffin
Announcer: Johnny Olson
Premise: Teams of related contestants use intuition to
solve problems with three choices.
Rules: To begin, Merv introduces the first problem to
the challenging team, who decides to play or pass. The
controlling team must then make a judgment: which one of
three jacks-in-the-box had identical twins, which outfit
was in fashion in the year a song was popular, etc.) Both
contesstants gave their choice, but eventually had to agree
on X, Y, or Z. Being correct won $100. If wrong, the opposing
team got the chance to steal the money. Regardless, the other
team got control of the next problem and this continued until
a team won $300. This team won the game and the right to play
the bonus game, and continue to win money until dethroned.
Sometimes, a "come closer" problem was played (what year was a
postcard painting created?" and the team that was closer, high
or low, won the $100.
Bonus: In the primetime version, the team chose door X, Y
or Z, and won a car, if the model with the key stood behind
the choice. On the daytime version, the winners chose straw
from a board, hoping to pick five of seven short strawas
before finding a long one to win the car.
