Jamn Joe's Review

O.K. this month we are reviewing Limp Bizkit’s “Significant Other” CD, so pay attention, LOOK AT ME!, I said pay attention! First what is Limp Bizkit, well take the Red Hot Chili Peppers add some Metalica, then mix well with an ample helping of some rap artist, someone like “D.J. Mr. Big Iced Koolio Sniffy Dog”. Last but not least add a little Nirvana for some good old social dysfunction. Now bring to a boil over the rage of disenchanted youth for two minutes and lower to a simmer, let cool and sprinkle with a little anarchism. Now what do you have, one of the hottest bands out right now. Let’s start with Limp’s first CD “Three Dollar Bill”, the majority of this CD is plain obnoxious noise slightly better than experiencing electro shock therapy. You see that’s what it is “shock therapy”, the instrumentals parts have very cool grooves and then the vocals kick in with extreme anger and profanity. I do not believe in censorship but Limp Bizkit is a perfect poster child for parental guidance advisory sticker. Speaking of which if you are a parent who’s child is into Limp Bizkit you may want to listen to these CD’s, you may wonder what they find appealing in them. The answer is that it is Rock-n-Roll, not the kind us baby boomers grew up to but it is what it is today and what it won’t be tomorrow. The true origins of rock were a combination of blues, country, R&B and rebellious youth looking for a new sound they could call their own, Rock-a-billy. Today it is a combination of funk, metal, alternative and rap. There are a couple good songs on “Three Dollar Bill” and that’s why I mention it. One song of note is “Counterfeit” and if you listen to it you’ll hear the sound of a band coming together, it is this sound that is captured again on “Significant Other”, Limp Bizkit’s next CD. “Significant Other” is a good CD, the sound is unique and if your are a musician and can get over any bias’s you have, you will notice there is some serious jamn going on here. I must admit though I still find that vocals use far too much profanity, in fact I will not let my child listen to it for fear of him learning bad words. “Significant Other” is toned way down from “Three Dollar Bill” and that is an improvement, now if they can get rid of songs like “n 2 gether now” they might get the acclaim they feel they deserve. I liked the majority of “Significant Other” and give it a “3 Guitar” rating, but I predict that if Limp Bizkit continues to gel with the sound they are getting and can drop the “F” word from their lyrics their next CD will be a smash. Then it will be someone else’s turn to reinvent Rock-n-Roll.
