The packaging ironically repeats the original issuer's promotional claims to have accessed previously uncirculating source recordings, even though the set has been reliably identified as a commercial clone of a fan project in very limited circulation. Minor variations exist across the variant versions of this set; by its cover slips, this version omits two circulating tracks, a short fragment of "Belchezaar," and a long-circulating take of "Crash On The Levee." Despite what you may read elsewhere, this set was issued on CDR, not glass-mastered CD.
BIAB: My opinion is that it represents a vast improvement over the sound of the 5-CD Genuine Basement Tapes set. Fewer dropouts, and considerably less distortion and much clearer sound on many of the key songs.
