Time to Rise
All that we have done is awaken a sleeping giant and put them into a terrible resolve. --Admiral Yamamoto, after Pearl Harbor This morning when I woke up my radio was on and I began to hear the news from Peter Jennings. I had heard it earlier, very close to the first reports, but I was still groggy and thought I was dreaming. I wish it were a dream.

I walked out to the living room and turned on the TV and saw the smokey New York City skyline. I cried.

I couldn't eat and still haven't seven hours after I first saw it. I can't believe it. I've never felt this kind of fear before. I don't think any of us have. We don't know when the next strike will be or what it will be. It doesn't make any sense.

I just can not fathom why someone would do this. I know whoever is doing this thinks that the U.S. has done some great wrong against them and/or their people. I can understand that to a point. We have funded certain sides in wars over in the Middle East and Africa and if you are on the other side I can understand the hatred.

But why would you do such a cowardice act against the most powerful nation in the world? It's like committing a slow suicide. It's a war that cannot be won. Americans will fight back and we will win.

Freedom itself was attacked this morning by a faceless coward. And freedom will be defended. -- President George W. Bush

My first class was cancelled by the teacher as he said he couldn't concentrate today. I respect that. He's not the greatest teacher, but I can respect what he did. My second class went on like nothing happened. I really felt like that was just naive teaching.

Some students were talking about it. I always find those conversations so odd. There's always someone spouting out facts of the situation and all of them are wrong. Someone always wants to know how many died. Does it really matter to have an actual figure? Isn't a fucking lot of people good enough? Just pray for them.

We've had quite a long peace time. Desert Storm really didn't test us. I think it's time we unveil our hand. I know we have weapons and technology that we have been keeping secret. There's really no need to show off our stuff unless it's needed. I think it's now needed. We need to show our royal flush. We need to stop being so nice and put out a little fear.

Some of you will say "how do you know we have stuff that nobody knows about?" We do. Some things you just know. This is one of them. It's been over thirty years since Vietnam and ten since the Gulf War. During the Gulf War we didn't need our greatest weapons. We just showed a little muscle and walked out winners. Thirty years and amazing advances in computer technology and aviation has me believing that there is more than what we know.

One last thing, I'm really glad this didn't happen during the Clinton administration. I would've been sick for a year worrying about our safety as a nation. New York could've been under nuclear holocaust and Clinton would've been getting head in the Oval Office.

I have faith in George W. Bush. He's a strong believer in God and an intelligent president. He will get us through this.

God bless America.
