In this column I want to cover a few things some that are important and some things that are just fluff. First off, I want to say that I'm glad all the channels have returned to normal. If I wanted to watch CNN, I would have turned to that channel. I can understand on Tuesday and Wednesday, maybe Thursday, but Friday should've been normal TV. I needed some laughter for crying out loud.
Second thing I want to talk about is the media. The first day I can understand all the weird things that were going on, but after that, most channels did a really good job. I can honestly say I can't stand Dan Rather. It's nothing personal or political, I just don't like him. Tom Brokaw's voice bothers me, so I have to watch Jennings by default.
One thing I noticed was that all of the "intelligent" students watched the BBC coverage fo the events. I guess the British are just so much more civilized.
I think going to war every once in a while is good for the country as a whole. It gives everyone a common enemy to unite against and it brings out the best in the best and the worst in the worst. I am aware that people die, but it's a really good feeling to walk down the street and see our great flag hanging off balconies, cars, and hanging in windows. And it's a great way for the U.S. to show the world in so many ways why we are the greatest nation.
I want to go on record as saying that I really, really don't like wearing ribbons. I gave all the cash in my wallet to the Red Cross, I've had an American flag hanging in my apartment for at least a month, and always pay my taxes. If someone thinks I'm a commie because I don't have a little ribbon on my collar than too bad.
Remember before the Gulf War how the media kept saying that this could be a long war with many lives lost to Saddam's elite Army? So do I.
