I have always remembered seeing the classic scene where Paul Newman and Robert Redford jump off the cliff in numerous clip montages since I was a wee lad. So I finally decided it was time to see the real thng.
The plot is pretty simple, but it's a good one. Two bank robbers in the old west are shown robbing banks then moving to Bolivia to do the same. Everything is pretty obivious, but as a buddy movie this is one of the best. The writing is hilarious and Redford and Newman are great. I have a whole new respect for both actors.
The only problem I had with the movie is it continuously shows little old movies of Butch and Sundance in gold and black. It doesn't look authentic and is just boring and not innovative at all. It seems to just hold the film up before we get to the good stuff.
The guys relationship with Katherine Ross' charecter of Etta is awkward, but smooth. It's all physical with Redford and all mental with Newman. She has the best man by using both of them. It's very cool, but very Jerry Springer.
I liked Butch and Sundance and it's one of the best westerns I've ever seen. I give it a B+.
