After months and months of anticipation (mostly due to Harry Knowles' Ain't It Cool News), I finally got to see The Faculty. I will admit I had a few beers before hand so I was feeling good upon entering the movie.
It starts out in a very amateurish way of introducing all the characters by putting their names on the screen in big red letters. Like they think we won't remember who's who if we don't get it stamped across our forehead. Everyone is divided up into their Breakfast Club-like cliques and the film is underway. An alien invader arrives and begins to take over first the faculty than slowly the students. The group of six we saw at the beginning our the group that is relied upon to stop this menace before it spreads to the rest of the world.
While each role amongst the six is pretty evenly divided up. Elijah Wood's part should've been beefed up due to the fact he is a far better actor than the rest of the bunch. I don't know why he's appeared in these action movies (Deep Impact being the other) when he is a far better actor than this crap lets him be.
A pleasing surprise though is all the stars in the movie. We have Salma Hayek, Jon Stewart, Robert Patrick, Bebe Neuwirth, and Usher. It's pretty cool. Look for Harry "Ain't It Cool News" Knowles role as a teacher.
While the movie was good for what it is, it ain't gonna be the greatest. I give The Faculty a C+.
