Fallen

Don't Trust a Soul

Before I even saw this film it already had one gigantic strike against it: Denzel Washington. I loathe this smug, stuck-up man. He seems so freaking in love with himself that the foul stench of actual work is what is driving him to continue making films. Glory was a fluke, pure and simple. Denzel hasn't made a watchable film since so going into Fallen I didn't have much hope.

After seeing the film, I thought Denzel was typical Denzel. He just seemed like he brought nothing to his role and could've been replaced by anyone. The one actor that seemed to shine was John Goodman. He seems so much different than Dan Connor here. He has a new found ability to actually show emotion and act. It's pretty cool.

The highlight of the movie is the bizarre chase scene. The fallen angel that Denzel is trying to kill has the ability to jump from person to person through touch. This sets up a cool chase where it passes from person to person on a busy sidewalk after a woman running from the spirit. It's odd, but the only original sequence of the film.

I didn't really like Fallen and I must admit I didn't expect to. I give it a D.
