I missed this film in the theaters because I usually don't find it necessary to see dramas on the big screen. The big screen should be saved for special effects and films that are so good I have to run out and see them. Even after seeing Good Will Hunting I don't regret waiting for the video, I just wish I could've seen it sooner.
The one thing I picked up on that most people haven't is they way the friends behave around one another. They don't greet each other with "Good Morning" or "How ya doing" they just act as if the other guy's not there. They know he's there, but they trust each other enough to just know it. Greetings are superficial and for people that are acquaintances. Most films have good friends saying "Hello" and stuff like that, but here, the writers (Matt Damon and Ben Affleck) know you just don't do that as friends.
Damon and Affleck do great jobs in their roles, but they're great actors. What's really amazing is to see Robin Williams who won a Best Supporting Oscar. When you think about Mork from Ork to Sean McGuire, Robin Williams is one of our finest actors. He can do anything. He's so touching as Will Hunting's therapist, it's inspiring. The love that he felt for his deceased wife is something we all hope to attain.
And it may just be me, but Minnie Driver's role seemed awful short. Like they cut out most of her scenes. Another thing, the film ended too soon. I wanted to see him go to California and I know everyone else did too. I need some tears, not just watery eyes.
I really liked Good Will Hunting. It made me feel good and proud of Ben Affleck. I've been following his career for a while and it's something else to latch onto an unknown actor and watch them reach amazing heights of their career. I feel like I know the guy. I give Good Will Hunting an A-.
