Sigourney Weaver has put in many fine performances and it seems she has many more to come. So I had hopes when suddenly everyone's heads turned at her performance in The Ice Storm. I mean she was amazing in Death & The Maiden. A Golden Globe nomination and tons of critical praise, I was looking for some amazing performance. I was disappointed. This film seems as awkward as a David Duke at an NAACP rally.
Weaver's role is too small to be counted for much of a supporting cast. She's pretty much quiet and icy throughout the film. It's not like she's working her ass off or anything.
The whole movie seems like a waste of film. It never seems to find its way. It's stumbling around in an ice storm trying to find what the hell it's trying to do. It ends up confusing the hell out of me.
Kevin Kline is dull and boring, as usual. Christina Ricci is the best performance of the whole film and that is because she has the most mysterious eyes. You never know what she's thinking or where she'll take you.
The underage sexual scenes are so unnecessary. What the hell is this all about? I mean the parents are sleeping around, the kids sleep around, and don't even get me started on the dog. It's just one of the strangest films I have seen.
The three boys in the film all look the same. It's confusing at first to figure out who is who. They all look like Elijah Wood and he ain't that good in here either. I give The Ice Storm an F.
