Jim Carrey pictures are supposed to be stupid funny and I liked most of his movies, but everytime he tries more serious humor, I just don't like it. I like the stupid things, not intelligent jokes. Not from Carrey at least.
In Liar Liar Carrey is a lawyer that must tell that truth for 24 hours. It has it's moments of hilarity, but it's not up to par with other Carrey films like Dumb and Dumber and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective.
I think the finger of blame can mostly fall on the supporting cast. I can't stand Jennifer Tilly. She can't seem to play anything, but the seductress. Time to expand on your work. And Swoosie Kurtz needs to stick to television dramas. All I could think about whenever I saw Carrey's on-screen son, Justin Reede, was "Get a haircut!"
I can't really say why, but this film just didn't stick to me. It didn't have that certain little something that makes it stand out. I give Liar Liar a C+.
