I honestly didn't want to see this movie. I didn't like the previews and I'm not a big Martin Lawrence fan. I find him like a fly you just can't get swat fast enough. He's a racist and no one is willing to point the finger. He calls people white boy and if a white person said that to him we would never hear the end of it. Don't deny it. You know I'm right.
But I kept hearing how funny this movie was so I went and rented it. The premise is simple. Nick Beam (Tim Robbins) has just witnessed his wife having sex with his boss. So he takes off driving through LA. Terrence "T" Paul (Martin Lawrence) jumps in his car at a stop light and tries to carjack him, but Beam just takes off and we later find out the gun Paul was using was unloaded.
The two form an awkward, forced friendship and end up trying to rob Beam's boss' office safe. That's pretty much it. The whole plot. Pretty amusing, but the acting of Robbins is pretty much him acting like an uncoordinated white guy. There's so many things we could've seen that would've been far funnier. Like instead of them going straight why don't we see them intentionally competing with another pair of bad guys for rights to rob the highway stretch? Just anything to throw some juice into the mix. We could've seen more of Paul's grandmother who provided most of the funniness of the previews.
I didn't really like Nothing to Lose so it deserves only a D.
