The third and smoothest of the holy trilogy shows Jabba the Hutt as a lazy slug. Now that they've shown him up and about in Star Wars, Jabba seems odd now. Even if has had a massive weight gain, he should still be able to move. I shouldn't criticize too much because Jabba's Palace is my favorite scene of all three movies. The characters in the backgrounds, corners, and shadows are so amazing to see. The brainwalker that moves through the large doorway into the palace as C3-P0 and R2-D2 are entering has a story all it's own that only hard core fans know. The books that followed the movie are great, but I'm not reviewing them.
The forest planet of Endor is somewhat stupid with those damn Ewoks. I used to like them, but come on, compared to the other aliens in the films this is kids' stuff. The Empire uses those hover bikes in the forest and are always crashing into trees. If the Empire has trained them so well, why are they such crummy drivers of their own vehicles?
Enough, I like this film. I like the new stuff that's been added to the end for the Special Edition. It really means something to see the statue of the Emperor fall down. It may be just symbolic, but it's so powerful.
The final battle of Vader and Luke intrigues the hell out of me every time I see it. I just can't help, but wonder and watch to see if I can spot the moment that Vader realizes he's dying. He knows it early on, but I keep trying to find that exact moment where, maybe it lasts only a second, he shows a sign of weakness.
The Return of George Lucas' Prequel Trilogy is highly anticipated, but this will always be the one that began the genre of event films Hollywood has latched onto. I give Return of the Jedi an A-.
