Oh my God.
I have just seen the closest I'll ever come to war and it was hell. Never before have I actually understood the brutality that war is until now. Saving Private Ryan will cause everyone that has never been to war to look at it in a whole different light.
This is Spielberg's masterpiece. Forget Schindler's List, this is the one. Thie will touch more hearts, stir more memories, and make people think. It will make us proud of all the men that have experienced this horror so that we can sit on our sofa and slurp Evian water and watch Jerry Springer each day.
Tom Hanks will be given an Oscar for his performance as Captain John Miller. It's through his eyes that we witness the most brutal moments of the war. Nothing is more painful than seeing a man trying to keep his intestines inside of himself while the others have to keep moving forward or perish themselves.Hanks is the finest actor in movie history.
This is much more than a movie this is an experience that no human will ever forget. Ever.
I walked away feeling less of a man than I ever have, like I'd been punched in the stomache. I can never repay the men that have fought and died for us for giving us such a gift while they went to hell. I was expecting to feel national pride, but I'm ashamed of every nation for causing such battles as the opening half-hour of this film shows.
We are not humane. We are barbarians. I now hold war as much more of a last resort. I was naive of it when I went to see Private Ryan. Now I know, war is not the fun and games of Laser Quest or paintballs. I hope to God that a draft is never brought back. I don't want to have to face this. War is hell and that's all it is.
I give Saving Private Ryan an A+.
