Brad Pitt needs to make one more long, visually-attractive film before he completes his aestheticly pleasing trilogy. Legends of the Fall being part one. The cinematography in Seven Years is far better than that of Legends. Seeing the Himalayas peak over Pitt's shoulders is just amazing. The city of Lhasa is incredibly dreamlike and fantastic. Isolated from the rest of the world, Lhasa is an incredible haven of peace.
The story about Pitt's character, Heinrich Harrer, is a little overtold and long, but it has it's moments. He starts off a pompous ass and slowly changes as he finds spiritual enlightenment through his conversations with the Dalai Lama.
Jamyang Wang Chuck portrays the Dalai Lama at age fourteen and does an amazing job. He brings together the curious youth and wise guru together and it's believable. The scenes with Pitt and Wang Chuck are so touching.
Heinrich Harrer is from Austria so we expect an Austrian accent. Pitt starts off with a bad accent that slowly disappears by the end of the film until he has no accent at all. He throughs in the occasional Him-a-lye-a, but that is the extent of Pitt's Austrian accent.
Of course I'd recommend this film to anyone that liked Pitt, but even if you didn't I still think it's worth a look. I give Seven Years in Tibet a C+.
