Right away it has one of my favorite "What's his name?" actors, R. Lee Ermey. He played the drill seargent in Full Metal Jacket which is an amazing film in its own right. Here he plays the true main character, the small town sheriff. He's running for election against a jackass of an opponent and they're racing to find the serial killer. Dennis Quaid jumps in to help Ermey because the serial killer also kidnapped his son.
Ermey is the only thing going for this film. The plot's a bore and so is the scenery which isn't all that good. Danny Glover seems to friendly in his role of being a pervert with playmates all over the interior of his car. Jared Leto is completely wasted. He should've ditched this film, but maybe he thought he'd get to work with Ermey again after Prefontaine. I don't know but this isn't good.
The serial killer is supposed to be something special that's what will make a movie stand out. This one has nothing going for him. He's supposed to be smart and mysterious. Guess what? Boring. We've been there, we've done that, and I'm tired of it. And why is the serial killer always a man, why can't we get more woman killers like Sharon Stone?
The plot twist at the end isn't that big of a twist. It's not shocking it's more like, so what. The writer wrote this when he was a student and he should've lost it so we wouldn't have to suffer through this. I give Switchback a D.
