I love Adam Sandler. I've been a fan ever since I heard his album "They're All Gonna Laugh at You." I like Billy Madison, but it's obviously not appealing to everyone and not perfect. With each movie, he has improved and The Waterboy is definitely his best yet.
The story of a simple, Cajun man who just wants to be the waterboy for a college team could only be thought up in the bizarre world of Sandler. He's brilliant. Who would fund such a wacky movie? It works though. It works it's ass off. It's been a long time since I've laughed so hard at a movie.
Blake Clark as Farmer Fran was a surprisingly great character. I won't give away what makes him so funny, but it's so stupid, it's funny. Henry Winkler is really good as the depressed coach of the Mud Dogs. I'm surprised at where he's gone since the days of Fonzie. Kathy Bates is out of place as Sandler's mother. She's not fit for this group. She's above this sophomoric material and should stick to the serious dramas. Not that I don't like her, I do, but she's just wrong for the role.
Run to see this movie. I give The Waterboy a B+.
