Screwtape Letters
By: C.S. Lewis
This is one of the finest "theology" books ever written. Lewis went the backward way to show us a man's soul.
The book is in the format of letters. Uncle Screwtape the demon is writing to his nephew- another demon who is beginning to learn how to tempt humans.
In this book we see many revelations and truths about ourselves. Like, "don't let a man think when are trying to persuade him against Christianity. Persuade him to think of real life, which he has no idea what is meant by that- it will just work to distract him from actually thinking."
This book can get very scary at times and makes your skin crawl- but it can truly help you to be a better Christian. You can see yourself revealed and see how what you are doing is not as holy as you believe it is. You can see what you should change in your life and why some things are happening to you.
One of my favorites of Lewis' points in this book is that even though wars are awful things- they really do not help Satan's side. When a war is around people are constantly reminded of life's frailty and that their life could end any moment. This voids the demons' argument that "you can think about and decide upon Christianity some other day." Man can easily see this is not so during a war!
This book is a classic!
Warning: This is a book for more mature readers.
