Andrew Patrick Wood.
Bainbridge Island, Washington.
Needless to say, Bainbridge High School.
The Wood family consisted of David (father), Marin "Toni" (mother),
Kevin, Brian, and Andrew. Andy was the baby.
David and Toni were divorced, David passed away a few of years ago.
Brian has a daughter named Star Turtle. Kevin has two kids, Jasper and Clara Electra. Check out Kevin's site.
Andy was about 5'7".
Andy and Chris were roommates for 6 months. They were really great friends, even though they were quite different from one another.
CEREAL! Any and all kinds!
I talk about that on the Singles page here.
I get a lot of mail from people telling me that they have read in many places that Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains says that the song Would? is about Andrew. I asked Jerry about this in 1992 after an AIC show and he told me, paraphrased, "It's not really just specifically about Andy, more about all of the people that have died from drugs, the way that he had."
In another interview sometime in 2000, Jerry said,
I was thinking about him a lot when I wrote it. Andy was a hilarious guy,
there was never a serious moment with him, and it was really sad to lose him.
I personally don't believe he wanted to die, he made a mistake. But what, you can't die?
So this song was about people who had some judgments to pass about others.
I don't really consider this song a direct Andy tribute, unlike "Mr. Lovedog" by Faster Pussycat or the two Temple of the Dog songs. This is strictly *MY* interpretation from what I was told.
Of course, Andy loved Freddie Mercury and Queen. He also took a lot from Marc Bolan, the lead singer of T-Rex. He was a huge KISS fan, as well as Elton John.
Andy was found comatose on March
16th, 1990. He was taken into the hospital where he then was put on life support for THREE extra days. He was taken off of it on March 19th, and this is usually the day observed.
Andy was cremated, so he is actually somewhere in a mausoleum. His site is
in Bremerton at the Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Most of you probably know her as "Stargazer." Xana La Fuentes was Andy's fiancee at the time of his death, and the one that found him that day. She made hats, and made many for him. Her and Andy.
