1988: Compilation Demo, Reciprocal Recording, Seattle, WA
Notes: This tape is a mix tape of tracks from the first two recording sessions. Different versions of this exist. It is assumed that these compilation demos were the ones sent to the major labels and music industry bigwigs by Stone and Jeff. Kelly Curtis, who later became MLB’s manager received one of these, as did Anna Stetman, executive at Slash and, later, Geffen Records.

June 1988: Steve Lawson Studio, Seattle, WA
Half Ass Monkey Boy, Stargazer, Holy Roller, Stardog Champion, Chloe Dancer, Capricorn Sister, Time Fade Away.
Notes: Recorded by Bruce Calder. This version of Capricorn Sister ended up as a bonus track on the CD version of the Shine EP. Time Fade Away may be Thru Fade Away.

September 1988: Reciprocal Recording, Seattle, WA
Bone China, Captain Hi-Top, Heartshine, Crown Of Thorns, Zanzibar, Red Hot Shaft.
Notes: This version of Zanzibar ended up as the hidden track on the Shine EP.

November 1988:(Thanksgiving Weekend):London Bridge Studios, Seattle, WA
Thru Fade Away, Mindshaker Meltdown, Half Ass Monkey Boy, Chloe Dancer/Crown Of Thorns.
Notes: Recorded by Mike Dearnley. The band signed their seven record Polygram deal on November 19, and just a few days later they entered this studio and recorded the Shine EP. It is unknown as to whether any other tracks were recorded during this demo session.

1989: Unknown Studio
Hold Your Head Up, Bone China, Holy Roller.
Notes: Not much information. Band recorded Hold Your Head Up for a planned Polygram tribute album that was later shelved. Recorded by Davitt Siegerson.

September 1989: The Plant, Sausalito, CA
Most of the Apple album. Also, Season of Change (also called “Seasons Changing") was recorded here. Two other songs may or may not have been recorded here: “Smile and Lick It” and “ Very Special Music”.
Notes: Stargazer is from the June 1988 session recorded by Bruce Calder. Later re-engineered by Terry Date. Crown of Thorns is the Shine EP version, sans Chloe Dancer. The liner notes to Apple state that ‘pre-pre-production Davitt Sigerson and Dennis Herring’. This is probably their contribution to the recording of Bone China and Holy Roller earlier in 1989 (see last demo session).
