George Christopher Kirchner Died 11-12-1881. Republican Examiner, 16 December 1881: George Christopher Kirchner died at his home, three miles south of Fieldon on 11 December, aged 65 years. Funeral by Lutheran minister at home of deceased. Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery. He was born at Erfurt, Germany on 17 January 1816. He was educated in his native land, came to this country in 1835 to Alton a short time, then to Richwoods township. In 1840, he married Elizabeth Thuston of Jerseyville. They lived together for 24 years. Twelve children were born, eight are living. She died in 1864. He married Mrs. Mary Charlotte Bueker (Klocke). She had one child and bore three more of this marriage. He wed her in 1871. Edward Kirchner Died 12-09-1963. Unknown newspaper, 19 September 1963: "Funeral services held Saturday for Edward Kirchner"- Funeral services were held at ten o'clock Saturday morning at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home for Edward Kirchner of Hardin with Rev. Harry Frazer officiating. Interment was in St. Francis cemetery. Friends called at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home after four o'clock Friday afternoon. Mr. Kirchner, a retired farmer, died at twelve-thirty Thursday afternoon, 12 September, at the Jersey Community hospital, where he had been a patient for twenty days. His age at time of death was 86 years, 2 months, and 14 days. The decedent was born in Jersey County on 28 July 1877, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Kirchner. Mr. Kirchner is survived by his wife , Louise; one step daughter, Mrs. Maxine Thompson; two brothers, George Kirchner of Fieldon and Elmer Kirchner of kampsville, and one sister, Mrs. Nellie Ayers of Batchtown. George Warren Kirchner Died 29-12-1968. Unknown newspaper, 2 January 1969: "G. Kirchner funeral rites on Tuesday" - funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon, 31 December at 1 o'clock at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home for George Warren Kirchner, a retired farmer of Fieldon, who died Sunday at 8:15 pm at the Jersey Community Hospital. Rev. Harry Frazier will officiate at the services. Interment will be in noble cemetery. Mr. Kirchner had been hospitalized for 22 days. Born 26 January 1887 at Otterville, he was the son of the Late Benjamin and Susan Davenport Kirchner. He was aged 81 years, 11 months and 3 days. His survivors are his wife , Mrs. Stella R. Gowin Kirchner, four daughters, Mrs. Marie Stallings, New Haven, Mrs. Opal Fox, Miss Emma Kirchner and Miss Betty Kirchner, Fieldon, and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Ferguson of Jerseyville and Mrs. Nellie Ayres of Hamburg. Miss Emma Edna Kirchner Emma Edna Kirchner, 73, died at 5:08 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2003, at Saint Anthony's Health Centerin Alton. She was born Feb. 9, 1929, in Jersey County to George and Stella (Gowin) Kirchner. Surviving are three sisters, Marie Stallings of New Haven, Ill., Opal Phillips of Galva, Ill., and Betty Grant of Bethalto. She was preceded in death by her parents. Unknown newspaper, 25 February 1965: "Elmer Kirchner died Sunday at nursing home": Elmer Ben Kirchner of Rural Route one, Grafton, died at ten o'clock Sunday morning at Garnet's Nursing Home in Jerseyville where he had resided the past fifteen months. Rev. Harry Frazer officiated at funeral services which were held at one-thirty o'clock Wednesday afternoon at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home. Burial was in Noble cemetery at Otterville. Mr. Kirchner was born in Jersey County, a son of the late Benjamin and Susan Davenport Kirchner, and his age at the time of death was eighty years, two months, and twenty eight days. His parents, one brother, and four sisters preceded him in death. Lester E. Kirchner 05-16-1984. Unknown newspaper, 22 May 1984: Services were conducted Friday morning at Jacoby Funeral Home for Lester E. Kirchner, 62, of Otterville who died at 10:30 am on 16 May at Jersey community hospital. He was a laborer with Local No. 646 of Jerseyville, working with the Jersey County Highway Department. Born on 27 November 1921, in Fieldon, he was a son of the late Elmer Benjamin and Rosa Springman Kirchner. Kirchner served with the Army Air Corps during World War II and married the former Eleanor Meier on 13 October 1944 in Overland, Missouri. His survivors are his wife; three daughters, Elaine Louise Medley of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Irene Delores Barnett of Jerseyville and Rosalee E. Williams of Moore, Oklahoma; three sons, David of Jacksonville, Dennis of Jerseyville and Donald of Otterville; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma Weller of Jerseyville and Rosemary Taylor of Alton; and three brothers, William and Earl, both of Kane; Paul of Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son. The Rev. Unknown newspaper, 1 September 1977: The funeral of Henry C. Kirchner, 59, of Grafton will be conducted at 2 pm on 2 September at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Grafton. Burial will be in the Scenic Hill cemetery. He died at 6:04 am on 30 August at John Cochran Veterans hospital in St. Louis. He was born 14 March 1918 in Fieldon. Kirchner was a group leader in the shipping department at Olin. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. His survivors are his widow, Wynona Smith Kirchner; four brothers, William and Earl of Kane, Paul E. of Jerseyville and Lester E. of Grafton; three sisters, Mrs. Della Hardy and Mrs. Thelma Weller of Jerseyville and Mrs. Rosemary Taylor of Alton; a stepson and stepdaughter, Raymond C. Kirchner had been a custodian for Pere Marquette Lodge in Grafton. Born in Jerseyville, he was the son of the late Elmer and Rosa (Springman) Kirchner. He married the Former Lorraine Poore in St. Charles, Missouri, on 3 November 1942. She survives. She married Frederic J Wieneke August 26,1926 in Springfield. He died March 1, 1953. Born in Jerseyville, he was the son of the late Lester & Ella (Beach) Dabbs. He married Esther Bell (Plummer) Dabbs June 27, 1931, in Carrollton, and she died on February 22, 1980. Husband, Oscar Dabbs, and 3 brothers preceded her in death. Kearney O. Dabbs Kearney O. Dabbs, 92, died at 7:43 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Jersey Community Hospital. Born July 8, 1908, in Otter Creek Township in Jersey County, he was a son of the late William Oscar and Alice (Hutchinson) Dabbs. He was a farmer and later from 1962 until 1973, owned and operated Otterville Grocery Store and was a 60-year member of Otterville Baptist Church, member of Fieldon Masonic Lodge No. 592 and Grafton Full Moon Lodge No. 341 for more than 50 years. He married the former Alice Busch Oct. 27, 1928, at the First Presbyterian Church in Jerseyville. She survives. Also surviving are three daughters and three sons-in-law, Betty and Clifton Cunningham of Fieldon, Mary Lou and Bob Eisler of Jerseyville and Brenda and Roger Allen of White Hall; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Morris and Juanita Dabbs of Jerseyville and Freda Dabbs of White Hall. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herschell Dabbs, and a sister, Mary Alice Flowers. Mrs. Alice O. Dabbs Alice O. Dabbs, 90, formerly of Otterville, died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003, at her home. The daughter of the late George F. and Mabel C. (Fredenburg) Busch was born on May 20, 1912, in Otterville. On Oct. 27, 1928, she married Kearney O. Dabbs at the First Presbyterian Church in Jerseyville. He preceded her in death on Feb. 18, 2001. A homemaker, she owned and operated the Otterville Store from 1962 until 1973. She also was a 62-year member of the Otterville Baptist Church and a member of the Jersey County Republican Women Club. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Clifton Cunningham of Fieldon, Mary Lou and Bob Eisler of Jerseyville and Brenda and Roger Allen of White Hall; nine grandchildren and spouses, Terri and Gerald Scott, Trudy and Bob Pritchard, Tina and Gary Vahle, Todd and Penny Cunningham, Bob K. and Mary Eisler, Kathy and Joe Fessler, Angie and Dale Coffman, Sue and Terry Tucker and Ben Allen; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one sister, Irene Gerson of Fieldon; and three sisters-in-law, Mary Busch and Juanita Dabbs, both of Jerseyville, and Freda Dabbs of White Hall. Morris L. Dabbs Morris L. Dabbs, 82, died at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born west of Otterville on Sept. 26, 1920, he was a son of William Oscar and Mary Alice (Hutchinson) Dabbs. He married the former Juanita E. Humiston on Nov. 19, 1941, in St. Charles, Mo., and she survives. Reared in Otter Creek Township, he was engaged in farming all of his life and served as the Otter Creek Township Road Commissioner for 23 years. He was an avid goose hunter, a charter member of the Grafton Hunting Club and was the last surviving charter member of the Jerseyville Moose Lodge. In addition to his wife, surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Bill Crenshaw of Springdale, Ark.; two grandchildren, Ryan Crenshaw and Sarah and her husband, Clint Pianalto; and a great-granddaughter, Mirissa Crenshaw, all of Springdale. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Alice Mary Flowers; and two brothers, Kearney and Herschel Dabbs. Memorials may be given to the Charity Christian Center. John H. Camerer, 75, of Godfrey, formerly of Pearl, died Thursday, May 16, 1991 in St. Anthony's Hospital in Alton. Born Nov. 26, 1915 in Eldred, Mr Camerer was a son of John B. and Rosetta (Graham) Camerer. He married Vera M. Davis on April 8, 1937, in Hardin. She survives. Mr Camerer had been employed by Federal Steel in East Alton and retired in 1979. He was an Army Veteran of World War II. Survivors also include to daughters, Loraine Garner of Winfield, Kan., and Bona Lambert of Ava; four sons, Dean and Paul Camerer of Jerseyville, William Camerer of Michael and Phillip Camerer of St. Louis; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lucille Sharrow of Pearl and Louise Riley of Carrollton. Mr Camerer was preceded in death by a sister, Elva Wooldridge and a brother, Alvin Camerer. Services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in the Hanks-Gubser Funeral Home in Pearl by Joe Rowlett. Camerer, 75, of Jerseyville, formerly of Pearl, died Tuesday, Aug. 16, 1994 in Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. Born Jan. 29, 1919 in Pearl, Mrs. Camerer was the daughter of Edward and Emma Silkwood Davis. She married John H. Camerer April 18, 1937 in Hardin. He died May 16, 1991. Survivors include a daughter, Lorraine Garner of Winfield, Kan; three sons, Dean and Paul of Jerseyville, and William of Michael; a brother William Davis of New Canton; 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Camerer was preceded in death by a daughter, Bona Lambert; a son, Philip Camerer; and two brothers in infancy. Services were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Hanks-Gubser Funeral Home in Pearl by the Rev. Robert A. McAdams. Burial was in Green Pond Cemetery at Pearl. Carroll Dean Camerer Carroll Dean Camerer, 64, died unexpected Sunday morning, April 8, 2001 in Calhoun County. He was born in Pearl on March 10, 1937, the son of the late John and Vera (Davis) Camerer. As a young boy Camerer grew up and attended school in Pearl, before his family moved to the Fieldon area. As soon as he could, he entered the U. S. Navy where he served for five years. After his return to civilian life he held several occupations the Fieldon Rock Quarry and the Grafton Boat Works, before becoming a welder at Federal Steel in East Alton, retiring in 1994. He married the former Shirley Ann Breitweiser on Nov. 27, 1981 in Rosedale, and she survives. Also surviving are a step son and his wife, Randy and Terry Barnes of Jerseyville; four step grandchildren, April Barnes of Benton, Nathan R. Barnes, stationed with the U.S. Marines in Twenty Nine Palms, Calif., Billy and Randy Barnes Jr., both of Jerseyville; one step great-grandson, Aaron William Barnes; one sister, Loraine Suttles of Wichita, Kan.; and two brothers, Paul Camerer of Jerseyville and Bill Camerer of Michael. Preceding him in death were a dear friend and companion, Isabelle Ontis, a brother, Phillip Camerer, and a sister, Bona Lambert. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday. He will be laid to rest with full military graveside rites conducted by the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 and VFW Post 4528 at the Green Pond Cemetery in Pearl. Memorial may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
Mrs. Ruth Ida Mathews Died 08-01-1975. Final services for Mrs. Ruth Ida Mathews of Rural Route 1, Fieldon were conducted Friday afternoon, January 10, from Jacoby Funeral Home where visitation was held. Her death occurred at 10:21 a.m. on January 8 at Jersey Community hospital. Interment was in the Hardin cemetery. Rev. A. J. Maggos officiated. She was born in Dickerson County in Virginia, September 24, 1896, the daughter of Wade and Cordelia Porter Ramsey. Mrs. Mathews was a member of the Pentecostal Church of Nutwood. Her husband was the Late T. K. Mathews. She is survived by four Sons, Paul and Robert Reedy of Bethalto, Bruce Reedy of Eccles, West Virginia and Cletus Reedy of Jacksonville; and two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Scott of Fieldon and Mrs. James E. Miss Rosemary Schaaf Rosemary Schaaf, 75, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis County. Born in Fieldon on July 30, 1929, she was the daughter of Isom Henry and Ada Charlotte (Young) Schaaf. A lifelong resident of Fieldon, she was employed at the International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville and the Fieldon Grade School. She then began operating the Farmers Market in Fieldon alongside Warren Fester. The two maintained a loving companionship for 30 years before his death on Dec. 25, 2002. She is survived by her only surviving sister, Hazel Thompson of Kane; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her companion, Warren, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Henry, Julius "Dude" and Fred Schaaf; and four sisters, Sophia Miller, Dorothy Mitchell, Alberta Evans and Lelia "Marge" Dilks. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where the Rev. Randy Cartwright will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Fieldon Cemetery. Asher A Bull Asher A. Bull, born 1883, Gilead, Greene County, Illinois, died 10-1968, buried Oak Wood cemetery. Asher A Bull, 85 yrs-2 mo-28 days, died at a physicians office where he had been moved by ambulance. The Jerseyville resident was a son of the late George W & Mary (Carrico) Bull. He was born in Gilead. He is survived by his wife, Clara M. Bull; 3 daughters, Mrs. Gus (Mary) Orban of Brighton, Mrs. Ralph (Elizabaeth) Bauser and Mrs. Juitte (Norma) Gill of Alton; 2 sons, Floyd Harold Bull of Jerseyville, and Edward N Bull of Bowling Green, KY; 18 grandchildren; and 17 g-grandchildren. 5 children, Leslie and Rosalie, and 3 infants preceded him in death. Funeral services were held at Gospel Assembly Church. Rev Harry Frazer and Rev. Louis Kappler officiated and burial was in Oak Wood Cemetery (Upper Alton). Visitation was at Jacoby Brothers funeral home in Jerseyville. Donald Allen Bauser ALTON - Donald Allen Bauser, 53, passed away 8:51 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2014, at his residence. Born on February 19, 1961, in Alton, he was the son of Clara (Bull) Bauser of Alton and the late Ralph Bauser. He had been a self-employed mechanic. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Heather (John) Clark of Alton; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three brothers, Gary (Jolene) Bauser, Mark (Dee) Bauser and Steve (Bev) Bauser. Preceding in death were his father, and a sister, Sharon Bauser. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service at 12 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Messiah Lutheran Church in Alton. Marks Mortuary in Wood River is in charge of arrangements. Dwight Dean Gross Dwight Dean Gross, 79, died Monday afternoon, April 25, 2011, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. Dwight was born Sunday, April 10, 1932, in Jersey County, the son of Pearl Dean and Minta Jane (Brooks) Gross. Dwight graduated from Medora High School in 1950 and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Dwight married Joyce Ann Rhoads on March 9, 1958, in Hernando, Miss. Dwight was a farmer and delivered fuel for FS and Boente Shell companies for several years. In 1976, he became a federal meat inspector and retired in the early 1990s due to his health. Survivors include his wife, Joyce A. Gross of Carlinville; daughter, Marsha K. Smith (Walter) of Carlinville; sons, David E. Gross and companion, Deanna Stadge, Ricky L. Gross and companion, Mary Bort, and Ronald W. Gross and friend, Rebecca Griffitts, all of Carlinville; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; sister, Shirley Bowman (Harold) of Summerville, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. Yates, 76, died at 6:55 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at Saint Anthony's Health Center in Alton. He was born Sept. 18, 1934, in Alton, the son of Olen H. and Margaret M. (Brady) Yates. He attended Alton schools and graduated from Alton High School in 1952. He attended The University of Illinois majoring in agriculture and was a mechanic in the U.S. Air Force. He was an avid trap shooter and a lifetime member of the American Trap Shooters Association, former member of Alton Jaycees and a Smith and Wessen distributor. He was a hunter and motorcycle rider. He worked at Alton Steele Mill and Allied Produce. He was the former owner operator of O.T. Yates Produce at 9th and Belle Street in Alton. He was a Northrup King Seed Distributor and retired from farming in 1997. He was a member of Jerseyville United Methodist Church in Jerseyville. In October of 1975, in Brighton, he married the former Doris Wuebbles. She preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 1988. Surviving are seven children, John (Julie)Yates of Bethalto, Tamara Yates and her partner, Angela Saunders, of Alton, Mary Kennett (Ryan) of Troy, Cathy Field of Renton, Wash., Margaret Beer (Rick) of Peoria Heights, Ill., Thomas Yates of Alton and Timothy Huggins of Ashley, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Yates (Bonnie) of Grafton and Robert Yates (Karen) of Grafton; one sister, Louann Seager (Gary) of Godfrey. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Hoyt T. Yates. Angelo, was from Gillespie, died Friday, February 26, 1999, in St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur. He was 91 years old on July 11. He resided in Kampsville where he established the Gospel Mission and also pastored the Mozier Christian church, Pleasant Dale Baptist Church and the Summit Grove Presbyterian Church of Kampsville before retiring. He was also the Kampsville village treasurer for many years, and a youth advisor for the Calhoun County 4-H. He was born in Palmyra, a son of Clarence A. and Stella Crawford Bettis. He married Geneva O. Angelo in 1928 in Gillespie. Surviving are two sons, Don Bettis of Decatur, Vernon Bettis of Ellettsville, Ind.; brothers, Wayne Bettis of Bettendorf, Iowa, Paul Bettis of Springfield; sisters, Irma Anderson of Modesto, Irene Smith of Virden; seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a step great grandson. Lyness E. Bushnell Lyness E. Bushnell born 1902, died Apr. 19, 1927, was a son of Reuben Sylvester Bushnell (1874 - 1957) and Georgia Tucker Bushnell (1882 - 1953). He was a brother to Rev. Howard S. Bushnell (1899 - 1963). Lyness was married to Lena Viola Highfill on 28 July 1921 in Jersey County, Illinois. On 19 April 1927, a gigantic tornado formed over Lincoln County, Missouri and moved NE through Calhoun and Greene Counties before moving into northwestern Macoupin County. The tornado then moved into Morgan County. The tornado killed a total of 11 and injured 63. Lyness was one of the fatalities. Burial: Bushnell Cemetery, Eldred, Greene County, Illinois.
