Andrew Jackson Delp

Andrew Jackson Delp was born in Dec. 1836 in Grayson County, Virginia, and died Feb. 11, 1902 in Jersey County, Illinois. Andrew Jackson Delp married Samantha Jane Goddard on June 07, 1862 in Alexander Mo. He was a civil war soldier, wounded in battles several times. Children of Andrew & Jane (Goddard) Delp were-John William Delp born August 02, 1863, died February 11, 1936, buried Fieldon Cemetery; Edward F. Delp born 12-12-1868; Albert James Delp born 2-24-1874, died April 08, 1936, buried Fieldon Cemetery; and Charles Walter Delp born July 18, 1875, died July 10 1955, buried Fieldon Cemetery.

Andrew Jackson Delp's father was Daniel Delp Jr. born in 1806, and his mother was Phebe Sage born in 1806, both from Grayson, Virginia. Daniel Delp Jr.'s Father was Daniel Delp Sr. born in 1775 in North Carolina. Daniel Sr.'s Father was Peter Delp Sr. Born 1-7-1749, in Bucks County, PA. Andrew Jackson Delp's mother Phebe is thought to have been buried in Hartford Cemetery in an unmarked grave along with him. His wife Samantha Jane (Goddard) Delp is buried in Fieldon.

Charles Walter Delp was a son of the late Andrew Jackson Delp and Samantha Jane (Goddard) Delp and was born at Grafton, Jersey County, IL on July 18, 1875. Charles Walter Delp's father Andrew Jackson Delp was born in Dec. 1836 in Grayson County, Virginia, and died Feb. 11, 1902 in Jersey County, Illinois. He married Samantha Jane Frost Goddard in 1862, the daughter of Jared Goddard and Sarah Jane (Frost) Goddard. Samantha Jane (Goddard) Delp is buried in Fieldon IL. Samantha was born in 1845, and died Jan, 21st 1938. She was 92 years old. Andrew Jackson Delp was buried in Hartford Cemetery in Grafton, Jersey County, IL. Andrew Jackson Delp and Samantha Jane (Goddard) Delp had 4 sons-John Delp born 2 Aug. 1863, died 2-10-1936, buried Fieldon Cemetery; Edward Delp born 12 Dec. 1868; Albert Delp born 24 Feb. 1874, died 4-8-1936, buried Fieldon Cemetery; and Charles Walter Delp born 18 July 1875, died 7-8-1955, buried Fieldon Cemetery, married Birdie May Leggett.

Andrew Jackson Delp's father was Daniel Delp Jr. born 1806 Grayson Va, Married Phebe Clayton born 1806 (she was said to be of Iroquois Indian ancestry). Daniel Delp Jr. and Phebe (Clayton) Delp had these children-Louisa Delp born 1845 in Ind., Sarah J. Delp born 1849 Ind., James H. Delp born 1833, Va., Catherine Delp born 1837, Va., John W. Delp born 1839, Va., Josiah Delp born 1841, Ind., married 21 Apr. 1863 Sarah Ann Newell. He is buried at Hancock Co., IL, Andrew Jackson Delp born Dec. 1836, Va; died 11 Feb 1902, Jersey Co., IL, married Samantha Jane Frost Goddard.

Daniel Delp Jr's father Daniel Delp Sr. was born about 1776 in Meklenburg Co. Va and his mother's name is unknown. Daniel Delp Sr. later married Margaret Couch. Daniel Delp Sr. went from Grayson Va to Jasper Indiana pre 1850,and most likely died in Indiana. Daniel Delp Jr. and his wife and children went on to Hancock county IL, and from there they moved about IL and MO for many years following the timber work.

Charles Walter Delp's obituary - Charles Walter Delp, died 07-08-1955. Charles Walter Delp, 80, resident of Fieldon died Friday evening, July 8, at his home in Fieldon. He had been in failing health for sometime and seriously ill for about 3 days before his death, when he suffered a stroke. Services were held Sunday afternoon July 10, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Leonard Todd of Alton, former pastor of Christ Evangelical and Reformed church in Fieldon, officiated and burial was in Fieldon cemetery.

Mr. Delp was a son of the late Andrew & Jane (Goddard) Delp and was born at Grafton on July 18, 1875. He had been a resident of Fieldon for 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Birdie May Delp of Fieldon; 3 sons, Harry H, and Everett L. Delp of Fieldon and Ernest C. Delp of Jerseyville. He also leaves 15 grandchildren and 8 g-grandchildren.

Charles W. Delp's wife Birdie May (Leggett) Delp's father Washington Leggett's obituary - LEGGETT. Jersey County News, Thurs, 13 Jan. 1927: Washington Leggett died at his home in Fieldon Saturday, 8 Jan. at 7:45 am. He was aged 77 years, 5 months and 6 days. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, 10 Jan. at 2:00 o'clock at the Fieldon Presbyterian church, Rev. Rueben Russell officiating. Interment was in the Fieldon cemetery.

(Note: Washington Leggett's wife Margaret Jane (James) Leggett said that she was a cousin to Jesse James the outlaw. Her father was William James. She was born 4-5-1853 in Warren Co. Iowa. She died 12-27-1925 in Jersey County, IL. She is buried in Fieldon Cemetery. Their last name Leggett is sometimes spelled Legate in some of the family obituaries and confused with the Legates who live in Jersey County, but they are not related.)

Charles W. Delp's wife Birdie May (Leggett) Delp's obituary - Mrs. Birdie Delp JERSEYVILLE -- Mrs. Birdie Mae Delp. widow of Charles W. Delp, died Friday afternoon in Jersey Community Hospital. She was 73. Mrs. Delp, who was born April 28, 1881, at Foley, Mo., was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Washington Legate. She is survived by three sons, Harry and Everett L., of Fieldon and Ernest of Jerseyville; 15 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. B. Hanlon, and a son, Lacey Delp. The body is at Jacoby Bros. Funeral Home where friends may call after 7 p.m. today. Funeral rites will be conducted Monday.

Myrtle Iva Kraushaar was born 3-13-1922. in Jersey, County, Myrtle Iva (Kraushaar) Delp, 49, of Fieldon died January 18, at St. Joseph hospital in Alton. She had been in ill health for some time. She was a beautician. They lived in Fieldon, IL.

He married Sonia Lawson on July 18, 1959 and they had two children Melodie Anne Delp and Susan Kay Delp. Everett and Sonia were later divorced and he then married Gayle Nelson October 12, 1968, in Jerseyville, IL. He and Gayle had no children. Sonia later married Jerry Burch Sr. and they had a son Jerry Burch Jr. Sonia died Aug. 17, 2011.

He was president, director and trust officer of Jersey State Bank in Jerseyville for the past 12 years. He joined the bank on October 3, 1977, after working as an examiner for the Federal Deposit Ins. Corp. and is a past Treasurer of the Bond, Madison, Calhoun and Jersey Co Bankers Federation and was a Mason. Born in Jerseyville, he was the son of the late Everett & Myrtle (Kraushaar) Delp. On October 12, 1968, in Jerseyville, he married Gayle (Nelson) Delp, and she survives. Also surviving are 2 Daughters, Melodie Sauerwein of Hazelwood, Missouri, and Susan Corbin of Lawrenceville; and 2 Brothers, Rodney L. Delp and Clarence "Buck" Delp both of Jerseyville. An infant sister preceded him in death. Services were from Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Wayne Pendleton officiated and burial was in Fieldon cemetery. Memorials may be given to America Cancer Soc.

Everett M. "Bud" Delp's 1st wife Sonia Anne (Lawson) Delp Burch's obituary - Sonia Anne (Lawson) Burch, 70, died at 4:15 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2011 at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born April 19, 1941, in Hardin, one of three children born to Ezekial "Zeke" and Orlena (Silkwood) Lawson. Sonia grew up in the Calhoun area, and graduated in 1959 from Calhoun High School. She had been employed as a cashier for many years at the Shop 'n Save in Jerseyville until retiring in 1993. She first married Everett "Bud" Delp, and together they had two daughters, Melodie & Susan. She later married Jerry Burch Sr., and they had a son, Jerry. Surviving are her two daughters and a son-in-law, Melodie and David Sauerwein of Charleston and Susan Delp of Jerseyville; a son, Jerry Burch of Chicago; a granddaughter, Taylor Sauerwein a student at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston; a brother, Bill Lawson of Quincy. She was preceded in death by both her parents, and a brother, Michael Lawson. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the Fieldon United Church of Christ, with Rev. Barbara Alley officiating. Burial will be in the Fieldon Cemetery.

Everett M. "Bud" Delp's 1st wife Sonia Anne (Lawson) Delp Burch's father Ezekiel W. Lawson's obituary - Ezekiel W. Lawson, 90, died at 4:18 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2007, at the Good Samaritan Home in Quincy. He was born Aug. 11, 1916, in Hardin to James and Outa (Devine) Lawson. He married Orlena Silkwood on Aug. 11, 1937, in Hardin. She preceded him in death. During World War II, he worked for Alton Box Board making bomb rings for the war effort. He retired in 1981 after 20 years as an office machine repairman at Widner Co. in Peoria. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. Survivors include a son, Zekie W. Lawson of Quincy; a daughter, Sonia Hetge of Alton; four grandsons; and four granddaughters. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Michael Lawson. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home in Quincy. Graveside services will be at noon Saturday in Green Pond Cemetery, with the Rev. Tom Rains officiating. Memorials made to Zekie Lawson in his name would be greatly appreciated.

Melodie Anne (Delp) Sauerwein's husband David Sauerwein's father Edwin Frederick Sauerwein's obituary - Edwin Frederick Sauerwein, 83, died at 8:45 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2009, at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home, after years of declining health. He was born in St. Louis April 23, 1925, one of two sons born to the late Edwin and Edna Marie (Egelhoff) Sauerwein. He married the former Thelma Marie Hagen on Jan. 14, 1949, at the United Church of Christ in Fieldon, and they shared 60 years together. He grew up in Otterville with his parents and brother and attended Grafton High School. In his younger years he was a farmer, truck driver, logger and a carpenter, building several homes in Jerseyville and two post offices in Fieldon and Dow. In 1970, he began operating Sauerwein Lumber Company and oversaw its operations as well as growth until his son, Roger, purchased the business in 1990. A resident of Fieldon since 1964, Edwin was very community-minded and served as the mayor for two terms in the 1970s.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are five children and their spouses, Louis and Mary Ellen Sauerwein and Roger Sauerwein, all of Jerseyville, David and Melodie Sauerwein of Charleston, Dennis Sauerwein of Elllisville, Mo., and Linda and Jeff McEvers of Jerseyville; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Charles William Sauerwein. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 8, at Fieldon United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Barbara Alley officiating. Burial will be at Fieldon Cemetery. Edwin Frederick Sauerwein's wife Thelma Marie (Hagen) Sauerwein's mother Thelma (Seago) Hagen - Thelma Hagen 89 died Friday at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville. She was born Nov 30, 1908 in Greene County, the daughter of the late Harry and Emma Edwards Seago. She married Louis John Hagen Dec 29, 1926 in Jerseyville. He passed away Jan 16, 1984. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Thelma Marie and Edwin Sauerwein, Raymond and Sharon Hagen, and Herbert and Janice Hagen all of Fieldon; 11 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and one great grandchild. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter and one brother Otis Seago. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 Tuesday at Crawford Holden Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services will be conducted at Wednesday at the Fieldon United Church of Christ where she was a member with Pastor Kurt Simon officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Fieldon Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Fieldon United Church of Christ.

Melodie Anne (Delp) Sauerwein's husband David Sauerwein's uncle Charles William Sauerwein's obituary - Charles William Sauerwein, 71, died at 1:47 p m, Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1997, at Christian Hospital Northeast in St. Louis County. He was born March 29, 1926, in St. Louis, one of two sons born to the late Edwin and Edna Marie (Egelhoff) Sauerwein Sr He grew up in the Otterville area, where he attended school, and in Grafton. After school, he served his country in World War II as an Army veteran, serving in The Philip pines and Japan. After returning to the states, he married the former Dorothy Prill Aug. 5, 1950, at the First Baptist Church in Jerseyville. She survives. He was employed for a short time with the Jersey Community School District as a bus driver and was a Jerseyville city police officer for two years He was best known as a self-employed farmer in the Fieldon area and operated a backhoe in the area for many years He retired in 1988 from Sunderland Motor Co. as a salesman after six years. He was a member of the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492, where he was a color guard, Jerseyville Rotary, Tri County Antique (Hub and served on the Jersey County Board. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; a son and daughter-in-law, William and Vicky Sauerwein of Jerseyville; a grandson, Daniel Charles Sauerwein; and a brother and sister-in-law, Edwin and Marie Sauerwein Jr. of Fieldon. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford-Hold-en Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Funeral services will be conducted at I p.m. Friday at the Bible Baptist Church in Jerseyville, with the Rev. Tim Garrett officiating. Full military graveside rites will be conducted by Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 and VFW Post 4528 at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Melodie Anne (Delp) Sauerwein's husband David Sauerwein's uncle Charles William Sauerwein's son William Sauerwein's wife Vicky L. (Iverson) Sauerwein's obituary - Vicky L. Sauerwein, 64, died at 8:32 p.m. Monday, Sept. 2, 2019 at Evelyn's House in Creve Couer, Missouri after a nearly one year battle with metastatic lung cancer. She was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota on April 15, 1955, one of five children born to Donald and BernaDene Ione (Montgomery) Iverson. A native of North Dakota, she attended Red River High School in Grand Forks, until moving her senior to Thompson High School in Thompson, North Dakota., where graduated with the Class of 1973. She was immersed in the medical field her entire life, first serving as a Medic with the U.S. Army, and then attended Central Texas College in Killeen, Texas where she earned her nursing qualifications. Throughout her career she had worked at numerous nursing homes and medical facilities, and was employed as a LPN with the Illinois Youth Center at Pere Marquette State Park in Grafton until her health began to fail. She met William Sauerwein while they were both stationed with the U.S. Army at Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri, and the two would eventually marry on Nov. 13, 1982 at her home church, Sharon Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. The early years of their 32 year married life were spent near Fort Hood, Texas where Bill remained with the U.S. Army. After his discharge in 1994, they and their son, moved to Jerseyville, and built their new home in which they still reside. Surviving are her husband, William Sauerwein of Jerseyville; a son, Daniel Sauerwein of Mandan, North Dakota; her father, Donald Iverson of Hatton, North Dakota.; two sisters, Carol Sonneberg of East Grand Forks, Minnesota., and Jeannie Strande of Grand Forks; a brother, Richard Iverson of New Rockford, North Dakota; and her mother in-law, Dorothy Sauerwein of Jerseyville, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her mother, BernaDene Iverson; sister, Linda Hoverson; a niece, Suzanne Hoverson; a nephew, Joshua Iverson; and her father in-law, Charles Sauerwein. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5 at the Crawford Funeral Home, with Rev.Brent Meyer conducting services at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in Grand Forks, and she will be laid to rest with her mother and sister at the Middle Grove Cemetery in Mekinock. She died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at St. Clare's Hospital in Alton.

Rodney L. Delp's wife Jeanalee (Martin) Delp's obituary - Mrs. Jeanalee (Martin) Delp, 64, died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at St. Clare's Hospital in Alton. A daughter of Fred Martin Jr. of White Hall and the late Amberlee (Gaddy) Martin, she was born April 8, 1942, in Jerseyville. She married Rodney Delp, on Sept. 7, 1957, in Jerseyville. He died May 20, 2006, at Des Peres Hospital in St. Louis. She had been employed as a dietary cook at Jersey Community Hospital for 26 years. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a great cook for the whole family, loved family get-togethers and, to her, everyone was family. She would go out of her way to help anyone who needed her. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Jeanalee (Martin) Delp's father Fred Martin Jr.'s obituary - Fred Martin Jr., 91, died at 3:45 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2009, at White Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born Sept. 1, 1917, in Greene County, to Fred and Lydia (Woolsey) Martin, Sr. He married the former Amber Lee Gaddy on Aug. 30, 1941, in St. Charles, Mo. She died April 25, 1991. He was a retired mechanic for Olin Corp. in East Alton. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca Jane and Tom Greaves of Carrollton, and two grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanalee and Rodney Delp, a grandson, several sisters and a brother. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, at Alexander and Gubser Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The Rev. George Rosales will officiate. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Myasthenia Gravis Foundation.

(1aa) Rodney and Jeanalee (Martin) Delp's son Timothy Clark Delp, age 45, died at 8:20 a.m. Thursday, June 8, 2006, at his home. He was born April 6, 1961, in Jerseyville to Rodney LaVerne and Jeanalee (Martin) Delp. He married the former Victoria "Vicki" Lynn DeSherlia on Aug. 22, 1980, in Jerseyville. She survives.

He worked in customer service at Moeller-Reimer Co. in St. Louis. He loved to hunt, fish and ride motorcycles. He coached recreation department baseball for several years.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons and a daughter, Bradley Tim and Beth Delp, and Brandon Chad Delp, all of Jerseyville; a granddaughter, Lillian Delp; a sister and her companion, Laurie Reynolds and Mark White, both of Alton; his grandfather Fred Martin Jr. of White Hall; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; maternal grandmother, Amberlee (Gaddy) Martin; paternal grandparents, Everett Delp and Myrtle (Kraushaar) Delp; father and mother-in-law, James and Elaine (Hazelwonder) DeSherlia. Burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville.

Clarence Walter "Buck" Delp's obituary - JERSEYVILLE — Clarence Walter "Buck" Delp, 75, died Sunday, June 11, 2017 at his residence. He was born in Fieldon, Illinois, on Aug. 28, 1941, and was one of three sons born to Everett M. and Myrtle (Kraushaar) Delp. Buck grew up and was raised in Jersey County, and graduated in 1959 from Jersey Community High School. He then entered the U.S. Army, where he served his country during the Korean War. Upon his return home, he married the absolute love of his life, the former Marilyn Louise Rue. The two married on Nov. 29, 1963, at the First Christian Church in Jerseyville. The two shared nearly 40 years together, before her death on May 20, 2003, and a huge part of Buck died that day as well. He retired in 1996 as a distribution coordinator at Olin Brass in East Alton, and dedicated 36 years of his life to them. Those who knew Buck, and even those who didn't, but were frequent travelers on Route 16, could testify to his near pristine yard, his perfectly trimmed shrubbery, and the sheer beauty of his residence. He not only took great pride in his home, but of his vehicles as well, sometimes hand washing them on a daily basis, and after he was satisfied with the results, you could catching him sitting in his lawn chair in the driveway watching the traffic or visiting with family or a good friend. His love for his wife Marilyn, was unparalleled. His dedication to her during her illness was that of a of devout loving and caring husband, and made not only their married life, but the days of her illness, one that she knew she was well loved. He is survived by his brother-in-law and sister- in-law, Steve and Nancy Rue of Dow; two sisters-in-law and a brother-in- law, Linda and Fred Blasa of Jerseyville, and Nancy Green of Jerseyville; several nieces and nephews, and a friend, Beverly Greenlee of Jerseyville. In addition to his parents and his beloved wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister-in-law, Everett L. "Bud" Delp and Rodney and Jeanalee Delp, and a nephew, Timothy Delp. Visitation will take place from 9 a.m., Friday, June 16, 2017, until time of funeral services at 11 a.m., at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. He will be laid to rest in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, where the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492 will conduct military graveside rites. Rue, of Jerseyville. Funeral services were held at 1:30 pm September 22, at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. A. A. Ledebuhr officiated, with interment in Oak Grove cemetery.

He married Beulah Irene Kraushaar 12-15-1928, the daughter of Clarence and Charlotte May "Lottie" (Atwood) Kraushaar. She was Born in Greene, IL in 1912. She married 1st to Ernest C. Delp and they had 9 children. Beulah married 2nd to Leslie C. Fryman. She passed away on 11 Feb 1997 in Jerseyville, IL. Her burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyvile, IL.

She was born on Nov. 2, 1933, in Nutwood, one of six children born to Lawrence and Clara Jane (Webster) Ontis Sr. Ollie loved being outdoors whenever she could, whether she was fishing, camping or mushroom hunting. She and her husband, Robert, loved to camp with Beaver Dam being one of their favorites, and traveled extensively when they could, enjoying trips to Corpus Christi, Texas, and Arkansas. Her greatest love, however, was being a Mom and later a Grandma. She married Robert Laverne Delp on Nov. 10, 1979, in Jerseyville. He died Jan. 24, 1992.

Surviving are her four children, Barbara Wong and Teresa Woodruff and her husband, Donald, all of Maryville, David Moy of Jerseyville, and Kevin Moy and his wife, Misty, of Marengo, Iowa; four grandchildren, Shawn Woodruff of Edwardsville, Danielle Woodruff of St. Louis, Alexandra Moy Phillips, and her husband, Mark, of Bethalto, and Cassie Moy of Glen Carbon; two great-grandchildren, Willow Emma Phillips and Gavin Woodruff; a sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Steve Ligus of Nutwood; and a brother, Lawrence "Junior" Ontis of Nutwood. Robert Laverne Delp's 2nd wife Ollie Mae (Ontis) Moy Delp's brother Lawrence Junior Ontis's obituary - NUTWOOD – Lawrence Junior Ontis, 88, died peacefully at 10:13 a.m., Thursday, January 1, 2015 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville after a brief period of declining health. He was born in Nutwood on July 24, 1926, and was the son of the late Larry and Clara (Webster) Ontis. Junior grew up and resided in Nutwood his entire life, attending Lone Star School near Nutwood before joining the United States Navy. He then began, what would become a 33 year career with Olin Corporation where he retired in 1984 as a Slidder Adjuster. He was a volunteer fireman for the Cottage Hills Fire Department and later served as Fire Chief for Rosedale Township and active in the former Jerseyville VFW. He was most content, however, being outdoors and enjoying nature. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, tending to his vegetable garden and most of all, fishing, becoming a commercial fisherman after his retirement. He married the former Dorothy Mae Fielding on September 22, 1948 in Jerseyville, and together they shared nearly 48 years of marriage before her death on April 24, 1996 along with the joys that came with raising their family. He was born in Jerseyville on March 10, 1936, and was the son of the late Ernest and Beulah (Kraushaar) Delp. Ron grew up in Jerseyville and graduated from Jersey Community High School. He was employed as an electrical supervisor at Laclede Steel Company in Alton, and after retiring he enjoyed traveling as a full time RV'er until moving to Kimberling City, Mo., where he was able to enjoy fishing, woodcarving and going out to eat. He first married the former Barbara Ann Britt on Oct. 1, 1954, in Grafton, and together they shared 38 years together and were the parents of two sons before her death on New Year's Day, Jan., 1, 1993. He then married Phyllis Robinson on Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 1995, in Dow, and they have been blessed to have shared the last 16 years together.

In addition to his parents and his first wife, Ronald was preceded in death by his two sons, Brent E. Delp, who died in an automobile accident on Jan. 30, 1981, and Mark A. Delp, who died of cancer on Sept. 17, 2000; two brothers, Robert Delp and Ernest "Butch" Delp; and three sisters, Patricia Reef, Doris Woolsey and Brenda Keffer. He was born on Dec. 22, 1955, the son of Ronald E. Delp of Jerseyville, and the late Barbara A. (Britt) Delp. A 1974 graduate of Jersey Community High School, he was active in the marching and stage bands. After graduation Mark began working at Laclede Steel in Alton as a steelworker and chainer, retiring in 1990 due to failing health.

He is survived by his former wife, Kathy Daiker, and their daughter, Marcia Nicole Delp, both of Elsah; and his stepmother, Phyllis Delp of Jerseyville. A brother, Brent E. Delp, preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 1981. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. He was born Jan. 31, 1946, in Fieldon, one of nine children born to the late Ernest and Beulah (Kraushaar) Delp. Butch graduated in 1964 from Jersey Community High School, and was employed as a union boilermaker for many years. Later in life he became a self-employed truck driver. He loved to fish and duck hunt, and anyone who knew Butch, knew how me loved fast cars, especially corvettes and power boats.

Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Andrea and Phillip Ringhausen Jr. of Jerseyville, Wendy and Donald Kallal of Patterson, and Marissa and Jason Ontis of Alton; one granddaughter, Natalie Walsh of Jerseyville; four stepgrandchildren, Ethan Ringhausen, Elyse Ringhausen, Ricky Kallal, and Christopher Kallal; one sister, Ruth Britt of Dow; three brothers, Donald Delp of Brighton, Ronald Delp of Kimberling City, Mo., and Richard Delp of Branson, Mo. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Delp; and three sisters, Patricia Reef, Doris Woolsey, and Brenda Keffer. Those that knew her well will always remember Wendy for her generous and forgiving heart. She married Donald Kallal on Feb. 5, 1999, in Jerseyville, and he survives.

She was a bartender for many years in the area, most notably at the Club 109, and was a cashier at Smiths Package Liquor in Jerseyville before retiring. She married Wilbur Dean Pete Woolsey in Nebo. He died April 2, 1997. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law Judith and Wayne Schafer of Plainview; four grandchildren, Anthony Schafer, Angela Mundy, Patricia Kohanski and Willis Schafer; two sisters, Ruth Britt of Newbern and Brenda Keffer of Kane; four brothers Donald Delp of Brighton, Ronald Delp and Ernest Butch of Jerseyville, and Richard Delp of Branson Mo. She was preceded in death by a sister Patricia Reef and a brother Robert Delp. She was born in Jerseyville on July 31, 1948, and was the only child born to Wilbur Dean "Pete" and Doris Marie (Delp) Woolsey. Judy grew up in Jerseyville, and attended Jersey Community High School. At the age of 17, she married Calvin Dwyane Schafer on Aug. 13, 1965 in Jerseyville, and together they shared 35 years together before his death on Oct. 23, 2000, when he was just 53 years of age. Judy was a wife, mother and grandmother, and spent most of her adult life caring for her family, but after her children were raised she began working at Wal-Mart when it was still in the Jerseyville Mall, and continued as a cashier when the Wal-Mart Superstore opened. Surviving are her four children and spouses, Anthony Wayne and Kathy Schafer of Kane, Angela Dawn Mundy, and her companion Brian Howell of Granite City, Patricia Beth "Trish" and Stan Kochanski of Alton, and Willis Dean "Tiger" Schafer of Jerseyville; nine grandchildren, Joshua, and his companion, Kelsey, Robbie, Kenny, Nathan, Stepfanie and her companion, Jasmine, Cassandra and her companion Tyler, Jake, Noah and Lily; four great grandchildren, Levi, Ryley, Conner and Abigail. Just like his parents, he became a devoted and loving father, as well as a dedicated son and brother, and there was no doubt his children were his life. He was a very loyal friend to many, and in return, was paid back with the same type of loyalty; and had a true calling to help others in need. He has worked many years in the construction trade, with carpentry being his specialty, and loved to camp, fish and ride motorcycles. Surviving are his mother, Terri Farmer of Dow; his children, Ethan and Lauren Newton, along with their mother, Jamie Kadell, who always remained special in his life; and Layleigh Newton; a half brother, Shawn Sullivan, and his wife, Brandi of Jerseyville; and his grandmothers, Rebecca VanAusdoll of Jerseyville and Ruth (Delp) Britt of Kentucky. He is also survived by numerous aunts and uncles along with their spouses, Jill and Dick Snyder, Curt Farmer Sr., Shirley and Kevin Hall, Kathy and Steven Byrd, Art and Marlene Newton, Gordon Newton, David Newton, Jimmy and Connie Newton; and many cousins, including Jenny Snider and Melissa Fester who always had a special place in his heart. Lofton was born on the 17th day of May 1826 in Gallatin county, Ill. He is the son of John W. and Mary (Baldwin) Lofton. His father was a native of Georgia, his mother of Kentucky. His father died on the 15th day of Jan. 1877, and his mother on the 9th day of Aug. 1870. John L. was raised on a farm, where he worked for his father until 21 years of age. He then worked around from place to place for about four years. In 1852 he went to Volcano, Cal., where he worked in the gold mines another four years. He then returned home and stayed with his father until about 1860. On the 1st day of April 1866 he was married to Mary Jane (Bentley) Bivens. He and his wife then went to Lynn county, Kan., where they resided three years, and then moved to Crawford county in the same state and remained there five years, his wife dying there on the 30th of Oct. 1874. He then returned home and stayed with his father until the latter's death in 1877. Mr. Lofton is the father of five children: Elizabeth, Emily, Charles W. and John T. (twins), and Mary Jane. His wife's children by her first husband are: Lucy Ann and Henrietta. Mr. Lofton owns 40 acres of land on section 36, Richwoods township, and is an old and respected citizen. He is a member of the A. F. & A. M. and a member of the M.E. church.)

He later obtained employment with the Olin Corp., until accepting a position with Federal Steel in East Alton, where he was an ironworker and known as "Sonny" by his coworkers and friends. He retired in 1995 after 26 years of dedicated service, which allowed him more time to follow his favorite teams, the Chicago Bears and Cincinnati Reds. He was a skilled hunter and avid outdoorsmen, belonging to both the National Rifle Association and National Wild Turkey Federation. He was a great mentor to many young hunters in the Fieldon area, and could be seen many days walking around the Fieldon community. He married the former Billie Mae Troutwine on March 17, 1972, in Jerseyville, and they have shared 46 years together. Surviving are his wife, Billie Mae Delp of Jerseyville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Karla and Tim Goodnight of Wood River and Angela Miller of Jerseyville; a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Paulette Pappas of Williamsburg, Virginia; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, David Delp of Monroe County, Missouri. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Delp; and a great-granddaughter, Serenity Ann Hill. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 2, until time of funeral services at 7 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. Rev. Brent Meyer will officiate. Delp's wife Billie (Ligus) Delp's father Steve Ligus's obituary - Steve Ligus, 89, died at 11:43 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at Jerseyville Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Hammond, Ind. on Sept. 28, 1924, and retired from Jourdain Roofing in Alton after nearly 26 years of service. He married the former Helen (Ontis) Troutwine on July 27 1962, in Alton, and they have shared 51 years together. Surviving are his wife, Helen Ligus of Fieldon; five children and their spouses, Carol and Dan Sherwin of Jerseyville, Billie and Charles Delp of Fieldon, Donald and Lou Troutwine of Fieldon, Sharon and Roger Smith of Hamburg, and Sandy and Merle Hance of Fieldon; 14 grandchildren; numerous great and great great-grandchildren; and a brother, Edward Ligus of Hammond, Ind. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George; and two sisters, Margaret and Ann. Family and friends are invited to attend graveside services at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, at the Fieldon Cemetery, as well as a luncheon at the Fieldon Masonic Lodge immediately following the internment. Born Sept. 24, 1911, in Fieldon, he was one of four children of Clarence and Charlotte "Lottie" (Atwood) Kraushaar. He served with the U.S. Army for several years, serving in Iran, and retired in 1973 from Olin Corp. in East Alton after 21 years of service. He married the former Rosaella Vinyard on Jan. 12, 1946, in Jerseyville, and they shared 60 years together before her death on July 28, 2006.

Surviving are a son, Sherman Kraushaar of Jerseyville; three daughters and a son-in-law, Bonnie Kinder of Golden Eagle; Shirley Davidsmeyer of Carrollton and Connie and Joe Pruitt of Godfrey; a son-in-law, Robert Pruitt of Godfrey; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kay (Kraushaar) Pruitt, on June 20, 2006; and three sisters, Beulah Delp, Myrtle Delp and Mary Lyles. He was also a self-employed grain and livestock farmer, and fruit grower. He was a member of the Calhoun Masonic Lodge. At the time of his death at Christian Hospital Northeast, Edmund was 65 years, 3 months and 2 days old. He was survived by his wife, Bonnie; 2 sons, Charles M. Lena Bonita "Bonnie" (Kraushaar) Kinder's husband Edmund Charles Kinder's great grandfather John Jay Kinder, Sr. Was born Aug. 5, 1808 in Northeimer Landkreis, Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen), Germany, and died Jan. 27, 1868, Burial: Kinder Cemetery, Calhoun County, Illinois. Born in Verliehausen*, Koenigreich Hannover [Germany] in 1808, {*Verliehausen is a village (now a quarter) that is part of the municipality of Uslar in Lower Saxony. Uslar is part of the Hanover district. Hanover used to be an independent kingdom and was known as Koenigreich.} - [Explanation provided by courtesy of Isa Bernardy.] John Jay Kinder, Sr. came to the United States in the 1840's at or about the same time as his younger brother, Friedrich. The surname Kinder was "Günther" (or "Günter") when the family lived in Germany and sometimes appears as such on old records. They eventually made their way to Calhoun County, Illinois. Friedrich married Caroline Fester in Oct 1848. John married Caroline Johanna Bush (1826-1895) about that same time. John farmed in southern Calhoun County, and they were the parents of 10 children. In 1854, Friedrich traveled back to Germany in an attempt to convince the mother of the Kinder boys to join her sons in Illinois. When Friedrich returned to America, he arrived on 22 Sep 1854 on board a ship named the Germanic with another brother, Georg C. Kinder, but without their mother. "George" married Karoline Otto and also settled in Calhoun County. John died in 1868 at the age of 59 years, 5 months and 22 days. He was buried in Kinder Cemetery and was survived by his wife, Caroline, who passed away in 1895. There are 2 markers for John Jay Kinder, Sr. at Kinder Cemetery. The original is written entirely in German and gives his name as Johann Günter. A tall, modern stone for both John and Caroline sits next to the original. Charles Walter Delp's brother and Andrew and Samantha Jane (Goddard) Delp's son John Delp/Delph (he and his children sometimes spelled the last name Delph) married Elizabeth Ellen Brambough and they had these children-Etta, George, Lottie, Bessie and Jesse. (2) John and Ella (Brambough) Delp's son George Delp's obituary - DELP, GEORGE/Source: Alton Evening Telegraph, December 19, 1919 -- George Delp, 33, died last night at his home on East Fourteenth street, following an illness of one year. Last year he became ill with influenza and though he recovered the attack left him with a throat affection which later caused his death. During his illness Delp's wife was his nurse. When he first became ill she was a victim of the same affliction. She was brought home from the hospital when her husband became ill, and though ill, she devotedly served him as nurse. When her husband became ill Mrs. Delp seemed to recover that she might help her husband. Delp was born on February 21, 1886, at Downing, Ill., and for many years has been a resident of Alton. He was a member of the local council of the Knights of Columbus. Delp is survived by his widow, Mrs. Bertha Delp, and a son, Ralph, ten years old. He leaves also his father, John Delp of St. Louis, and his grandmother, Mrs. Polett of Grafton, and three sisters, Mrs. W. Mackey of Archville, Ill., Mrs. L. Rose of Oklahoma, and Mrs. E. Camp of this city. He leaves a brother, Jesse Delp of Chapin, Ill. The funeral will be tomorrow morning from the home at 804 East Fourteenth street. Requiem mass will be celebrated at SS. Peter and Paul's Cathedral at 8:30 a.m., and interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Delp has been very ill and her death was not unexpected. She leaves a small son, Ralph. Mrs. Delp was born in Deerplain, January 13, 1890, but has resided in Alton for some time. Besides her eleven year old son, she is survived by her mother, Mrs. Matilda Richey, one sister, Mrs. S. Dashley, and by three brothers, Albert, Ernest and Oscar Richey. The funeral will be held Friday morning at 9 o'clock from the Cathedral. Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery.

George Delp's wife Bertha (Richey) Delp was the daughter of Stephen Milton Richey, son of Milton and Margaret (Court) Richey. He was born on May 21, 1849, near Fieldon, Jersey County, Illinois. Stephen married Matilda Fortine in 1879. Matilda was born in February of 1858, in Deer Plain, Calhoun County, Illinois. Stephen and Matilda lived in Calhoun County, and then in Alton, Madison County, Illinois. They were the parents of eight children-Harry L Richey, Felix M Richey, Albert C Richey, Frank E Richey, Bertha C Richey, Ida Richey, Ernest L Richey, and Oscar C Richey. Bertha (Richey) Delp's grandfather Milton L. Richey, son of Stephen and Sarah (Browning) Richey, was born on January 2, 1820, in Green Township, Hamilton County, Ohio. Milton married Margaret Court, on July 4, 1841, in Jersey County, Illinois. They were married by Silas Crain, Justice of the Peace. Margaret was born January 22, 1825, in Madison County, Illinois. She was the daughter of William and Anna Abbott Court. Milton and Margaret lived in Jersey County and then Calhoun County, Illinois. Milton was a farmer. In later years, he was a mail carrier in the Jersey County area. Milton and Margaret were the parents of nine children. At some point in time, Milton acquired land in Jersey County in Richwood Township. At some point between 1850 and 1856 Milton sold his land in the Richwood township to his brother-in-law, Charles Court. Milton purchased the same parcel of land back from Charles by deed dated March 29, 1856, just prior to Charles' death. Margaret died on November 3, 1868, in Calhoun County, Illinois. Margaret was buried in a corn field near a river in Calhoun County, Illinois. Sometime in the late 1960s or early 1970s the family discovered the tombstone had been broken off and was lying in the field. The family took the stone and, with permission, erected it in St. Patrick's (Greenwood) Cemetery, at the grave sites of Oscar and Charles Richey, Margaret's grandsons. By the 1980s, however, the stone was no longer at St. Patrick's; its whereabouts is unknown. After Margaret died, Milton married Jane Jarney on December 12, 1869, in Jersey County, Illinois. They were married by Morris Thomas, Justice of the Peace. Milton died from pneumonia on February 10, 1883, in Grafton. He had been ill for eight days.According to the death register for Jersey County, Milton is buried at the Odd Fellows (Scenic Hill) Cemetery, in Grafton. No stone has been found for Milton. (Scoggins) Delp Roy and Erika (Stegmann) met in her home town, where he was stationed in Ober-Ramstadt, Germany on March 29, 1947. She came over to the USA in August 1949 and two weeks later they were married on August 20, 1949. They celebrated 59 years of marriage. She survives. Roy served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII in Germany were he received a Victory Medal and also during the Korean Conflict where he received a Korean Service Medal and 2 Bronze Service Stars. He worked as a shipping foreman for Owens Illinois Glass Company for 44 ˝ years retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Bethalto First Baptist Church. A lifetime member of the Alton VFW Post 1308, a member of the Alton Eagles F.O.E. 254 and he loved to travel in the United States and Europe. He enjoyed boxing, baseball, football, reading and most of all spending time with his family. He also loved to keep in touch with his army buddies. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his 5 children and their spouses, Larry Delp of Godfrey, Shirley & Randy Durbin of East Alton, Norman Delp and Lana Scheffel of Brighton, Roger & Tina Delp of Brighton and Renate & Phil Stassi of Roxana; 9 grandchildren, Carrie, Julie E., Jason, Kyle, Erin, Stephanie, Valerie, Kimberly and Julie D.; 11 great grandchildren, 3 sisters & two brothers-in-law, Betty Landers of Wood River, Pearlie & Don Runion of Worden and Dixie & Paul Baldwin of Medora and a brother and sister-in-law, Marvin & Gloria Delp of East Alton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Damon Delp. In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 5 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. He was born in Alton on Oct. 30, 1955, one of five children born to the late Roy Walter & Erika (Stegmann) Delp. Norman grew up in Bethalto, and graduated in 1973 from Civic Memorial High School. He was a resident of Sand Springs, Ok., for many years where he was the owner/operator of Tulsa Pools in Tulsa, Ok. He returned back to the area in 2000, and was a member of Plasters and Cemetery Masons Local 90 out of Troy, and worked primarily with RCS Construction in Wood River. For the past eleven years Norman has been in a loving relationship with Lana Scheffel, and the two married Aug. 5, 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada, and she survives. Also surviving are a son & daughter in law. Kyle & Emilie Delp of Wood River; a daughter, Julie Delp, and her companion, Tyler Christensen of Bixby, Ok.; three grandchildren, Emma Delp, Jenna Foutch, and Callie Christensen; two sisters & brothers in law, Shirley & Randy Durbin of East Alton, and Renate & Phil Stassi of Roxana; two brothers, Larry Delp of Godfrey and Roger Delp of Sorento. Runion of Georgia, and Donald R. Runion, Jr. of Roxana; 2 special nieces, Dena Bush of Wood River and Debra Kelly of Roxana; several other nieces and nephews; and her beloved “baby”, her Eskimo snow dog, Snowball. Thomas Wilde Lyles was born in 1834 and died in 1881. He was a Civil War Veteran. He was buried at Chapman-Paradise Cemetery, Fidelity Township, Jersey County, IL. He married Agnes Cairns Sept. 14, 1863 in Jersey County, IL. Thomas Wilde Lyles and Agnes (Cairns) Lyles had these children-James T. Lyles, Fountain H. Lyles, and Alexander Lyles.

Upon retirement he spent countless hours in the outdoors at the family farm, at auctions and with his grandchildren. Kenny will be infinitely missed as a husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend. Lloyd Leon Lyles Jr.'s wife Caryl Joyce (Chappell) Lyles's brother Glen Melvin "Mel" Chappell"s obituary - Glen Melvin "Mel" Chappell, 85, Commander, USN (Ret.), passed away on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, in Oceanside after a long illness. Born in Arnold, Neb., March 1, 1923, to Lucy and Charles Chappell, he grew up in Jerseyville. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Patricia Roberts Chappell. He joined the Navy in 1942, serving as a bomber pilot during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Shangri-La. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1948 with an engineering degree, worked for Kaiser-Frazer, and then re-entered the Navy in 1951, serving until 1959. Besides his career as a Navy pilot, he was a mechanical engineer in civil service, a hardware store owner and a real estate agent. During retirement, he relished traveling the world with his wife or friends. He was active in the Masonic order, High Twelve, and Associate Guardian of Job's Daughters in Colfax, Calif.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Ralph Evans of Vista, Calif.; his daughter, Mary Chappell of Ventura, Calif.; his grandson, Brent Evans, and family of Charlotte, N.C.; his granddaughter, Erica Evans Battaglia, and family of San Francisco; his three great-granddaughters, Anamaria and Daniela Evans and Violet Battaglia; his brother, Howard Laverne Chappell of Columbia, S.C.; his sisters, Ruth Warner and Caryl Lyles of Jerseyville; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, in Vista, Calif. Cremation was handled by the Neptune Society. The family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or the American Kidney Foundation.

She was born Nov. 8, 1926, in Brighton to Charles and Lucy Irene (Joy) Chappell. Her marriage to William Russell "Rusty" Warner took place July 23, 1949, in Jerseyville. He survives. She retired from Jersey State Bank as a bank clerk and cashier and was a 50-plus year member of the Jerseyville 1st United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband of Jerseyville, survivors include one son, Dennis Lee and Miranda Warner of Flushing, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Alex and Naomi Ruth; one great-grandchild, Sydney; and one sister, Caryl Lyles of Jerseyville. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Dorothy Moore and Maxine Cummings; two brothers, Howard and Glenn Chappell; and Eloise Walters, who was raised together with Ruth as sisters. Visitation will be from 2 until time of services at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Alexander & Gubser Funeral Home. The Revs. Mark Myers and Dennis Hill will officiate. Lloyd Leon Lyles Sr. and Mary (Kraushaar) Lyles's son Gary Neal Lyles's obituary - Gary Neal Lyles, 52, died at 1:50 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, 2004, at his home after a courageous and valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born July 17, 1952, in Alton, He married the former Barbara Powers on Dec. 19, 1970, in Fieldon. She survives. A lifelong resident of Jersey County, he loved the outdoors, especially those occasions when he was able to spend time with his two sons, whether it be hunting, trout fishing or camping. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs fan and was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Brighton Gun Club. He had been employed for the past 18 years as a machinist at Owens-Illinois machine shop in Godfrey, retiring last year because of his health.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Jennifer Lyles of Jerseyville and Joe and Sandy Lyles of Fieldon; three sisters, Charlotte Dawson of Alton, Linda Cheek of Delhi and Mary Lee Dunham of Fieldon; two brothers, James Thomas Lyles of Atlanta and David Edwards Lyles of Taylorville; his mother-in-law, Priscilla Powers of Fieldon; and three sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joanie and Kevin Ruyle and Cathy and RC Beiermann, all of Jerseyville, and Pauline Norris of Hamburg and James Powers of Fieldon. Preceding him in death were two brothers, Lloyd Leon Lyles Jr. and Sherman Frank Lyles, and his father-in-law, John Douglas Powers. In honor of his service during the Vietnam War with the U.S. Army, military rites were conducted at the Grimes-Neeley Cemetery in Jerseyville by the Jerseyville American Legion Post 492.

He married the former Edna Devening on 22 July 1922 in Hardin. Born 29 Jun. 1903 in Jersey County, IL. She died at age 78 on Feb. 3 1982 at Jersey Comm. Hospital. Her burial was in the Gunterman cemetery, Richwood Township, Jersey County, IL. She was a daughter of James and Hester (Mefford) Devening.

Surviving are her husband, James Lyles of Kane; a daughter, Cheryl Wadlow of Kane; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James Patrick Lyles of Kane, and Kevin and Karla Lyles of St. Peters, Mo.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Thelma Davis and Grace Kanallakan both of Jerseyville, Elsie Simpson of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Marcella Lyles of Winder, Ga.; along with many nieces and nephews. She was born in Jersey County on Aug. 3, 1924, the daughter of the late Harry and Edna Mae (Devening) Lyles. Being from a large family, Essie learned early on the meaning of hard work, loyalty to family, and a strong belief in God, praying the Rosary daily. She married Herbert Joseph Heitzig on Nov. 8, 1944, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fieldon, and together they raised their children in a loving home, where they instilled into them their same values of hard work, love of one another, and a solid foundation on which to base their lives. Herb and Essie shared nearly 54 years together before his death on April 8, 1998. In her early years, Essie worked at the International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville, but after her marriage, she concentrated on raising her family and running the family trucking business from home. She enjoyed her family, as well as the gambling boat, and had a fondess for the slot machines. He was born in Jerseyville on Dec. 30, 1928, and was the son of Wesley and Mary Margaret (Hewitt) Jones. He graduated from Jersey Township High School, and was and United States Korean War Army veteran. He was always active and enjoyed life to the fullest. He enjoyed golfing at every opportunity and looked forward to golfing with his friends at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Alton. He married the former Nora Irene Lyles on July 28, 1956 and together they have shared 62 years of marriage and proudly raised two daughters. Surviving are his wife, Nora Jones of Jerseyville; two daughters and son in-law, Rebecca and Tony Pearlstone of CreveCouer, Mo, and Jane and Stan Vlasak of Maryville; six grandchildren, Katherine Pearlstone, and her fiance' Andrew Lemons, Nick Pearlstone, Jack Pearlstone, Sara Vlasak, Sam Vlasak, and Spencer Vlasak; a brother, Paul Jones of Jerseyville; and brothers in-law and sisters in-law, Lillie Wilson, Richard "Dick" Lyles, Cora Hadlock, James Lyles, Robert and Jean Lyles, Edith and Bernie Dugger and Janice and Bob O'Brien. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Pearlstone on March 17, 2006; and a sister, Ruth Stocks. Cremation rites have taken place. (9a) Harry and Edna (Devening) Lyles's son Harry Richard "Dick" Lyles's obituary - Harry Richard "Dick" Lyles, 87, died at 9:20 p.m., Sunday, March 1, 2020 at Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, Illinois. He was born in Jersey County, Illinois, on March 13, 1932 to the late Harry W. and Edna Mae (Devening) Lyles. Growing up as a part of a large family, Dick learned early on the values of hard work and commitment. He served our country with the United States Navy, enlisting in 1951 and retiring after 20 years of honorable service as an Advanced General Dental Technician. Never one to shy away from hard work, following his retirement from the military, Dick went on to work for Dugger Pools in Bethalto, Illinois; as well as working alongside his brother, James, with their construction business, for a period of time. He then accepted a position as a Custodian with Jersey Community Unit School District 100, prior to his "official" retirement. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Jerseyville American Legion, VFW as well as the former Moose Lodge in Jerseyville. He found tremendous joy in the time spent with his family and his love for them all was one to behold, with the Green Bay Packers following a close second. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Dennis Walls of Godfrey, Illinois; five grandchildren, Brian Hansen of Jerseyville; Justin and Jaime Hansen of St Louis, Missouri; Jamie Robinson of San Francisco, California; Chris and Sasha Walls of Huntsville, Alabama; and Bronwyn Banks of Dallas, Texas; seven great-grandchildren, Kirklyn and Matthew Hansen, Lilly, Hayden and Ian Walls, and Gracie and Elijah Banks; his siblings, James Lyles of Kane, Robert and Jean Lyles of Jerseyville, Lillie Wilson of Jerseyville, Nora Jones of Jerseyville, Edie and Bernie Dugger of Jerseyville and Cora Hadlock of Casper, Wyoming; along with a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, L.C. She married Jasper Cummings 1-25-1934 in Jersey County, IL. They had two sons, William and Richard Cummings and two daughters, Judy (Cummings) Decker, and infant Amelia Lyles. She later married Albert F. Krueger 4-30-1975. He died 9-22-1985 at age 74. He was married before to Freda Hamilton whom he married 9-12-1936. She died 9-22 1962. Albert Krueger and his first wife Freda (Hamilton) Krueger had 5 children-Donald Krueger of Waterloo, IL, Marcella Marie McCallister of Pana, IL, Phyllis Ann Long of Alton, IL, Karen Linn Krueger of Alton, IL, and Cristal Ourdehner of Matteson, IL. Albert Krueger is buried at Fieldon Cemetery, Richwood Township, Jersey County, IL.

She was born Sept. 1, 1917, in Fidelity to James T. and Amelia (Geisler) Lyles. She married Jasper Cummings on Jan. 25, 1934. He died April 6, 1971. She married Albert Krueger on April 30, 1975. He died Sept. 28, 1985. The retired salesperson and bookkeeper was a member of St. Norbert's Catholic Church and Altar Society in Hardin and the Ladies of the Moose in Jerseyville.

Survivors include one stepson, Donald Krueger of Waterloo; four stepdaughters, Marcella McCallister of Pana, Ill., Phyllis Long of East Alton, Karen Krueger of Alton and Cristal Dehner of Jerseyville; seven grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jean Taviner of Hardin. In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, William and Richard Cummings; two daughters, Judy Decker, and infant Amelia Lyles; three brothers, Harry, James and Lloyd Lyles; and three sisters, Adline McCoy, Genevieve Pontero and Annabelle Keirle. "Jean" Taviner, 94, died at 12:25 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2008, at Calhoun Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hardin. She was born Feb. 4, 1914, in Shipman, to James and Amelia (Geisler) Lyles. She married Ralph Taviner on Nov. 9, 1931, in Carrollton. He died Feb. 6, 1988. She was owner and operator of the family business, Taviner's Store, for 35 years. She was a homemaker who was very family-oriented and loved to prepare family dinners. She was a music lover and especially enjoyed big band music. She was a member of the Hardin Presbyterian Church and the Calhoun Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star 990 in Hardin.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Millie Taviner of Hardin and Pat and Naomi Taviner of Springfield, Ill.; three grandchildren, Jeff and Mike Taviner of Hardin and Diane Taviner of Lisle, Ill.; four great-granddaughters; two great-great-grandsons; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald and Kenneth Taviner; three brothers, Harry, James and Lloyd Lyles; and four sisters, Adelaide Lyles, Genevieve Pontero, Fern Krueger and Annabelle Keirle. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until services at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 29, at the Hardin Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Paul D. Frazier will officiate. Burial will be at Hardin City Cemetery. He was born June 15, 1936, in Hardin, son of the late Ralph and Eugenia (Lyles) Taviner. He married Mildred E. "Millie"ť (Dietzman) Taviner Jan. 28, 1956, in Hermando, Miss. She survives. He was a grain and livestock farmer. He was co-owner of Taviner BiRite Grocery in Hardin for many years. He and Millie loved ballroom dancing. He was a member of Indian Creek Church of Christ in Hamburg, where he had served as elder and deacon. He was past president of the Calhoun Unit 40 School Board. Survivors in addition to his wife are two sons, Jeff and Mike Taviner both of Hardin; four grandchildren: Lori (Richie) Grissom, Rosie, Heaven and Holly Corbett. three great-grandchildren, Levi, Keegan and Keeleigh; a brother, Pat (Naomie) Taviner of Hardin, and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Kenneth and Ronnie Taviner. At his request the body was cremated and no services are scheduled. Memorials may go to Indian Creek Church of Christ in Hamburg. Hanks-Gress Funeral Home in Hardin is in charge of arrangements.

(1a) Genevieve (Lyles) Hilyard Pontero's daughter Ramona Jean (Hilyard) Abbott's obituary - Ramona Jean Abbott, 78, died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born Aug. 16, 1929, in Alton to Harry M. and Genevieve (Lyles) Hilyard. She married Alonzo "Jack" Abbott on Jan. 17, 1977, in Godfrey. He survives. Raised in Bunker Hill, she attended school there for several years before graduating from Pearl High School in 1947. She began working in the composing/layout room for Cordes Printing in St. Louis and later worked for the Suburban Journal in Alton and Phillips Garage in Jerseyville.

In addition to her husband, survivors include two daughters, Linda (Gansz) Douglas of Jerseyville and Beverly (Gansz) Simpson of Bunker Hill; four stepchildren and their spouses, Sandra and Aaron Hayes of Kane, Jeffrey and Carol Abbott of Jerseyville, Steven Abbott of Kane and Bruce and Jamie Abbott of Jerseyville; five grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Bonnie Rhodes of Williamsville, Ill. She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Genevieve and Louis Pontero; her father; a great-granddaughter, Chloe Gettings; and two sisters, Patsy Lane and Connie Watson. Fountain H. Lyles (son of Thomas W. and Agnes Cairns Lyles) was born Aug. 4, 1869 in Jersey County, IL. He died Apr. 3, 1952, age 83, in Litchfield, IL. He was buried in Shipman Cemetery, Macoupin County, IL. He married Alice Harris. She was born Mar. 9, 1892, and died Dec. 19, 1961. Children of Fountain and Alice (Harris) Lyles were-William F. Lyles, Alberta Lyles, Agnes Lyles, Leroy Lyles, and Mildred Lyles.

Fountain H. Lyles's obituary - LYLE. Unknown newspaper, 10 Apr. 1952: "F. H. Lyle, native of Jersey, dies": Fountain H. Lyle, 83, of Gillespie, died at six pm Thursday 3 April at St. Francis hospital in Litchfield where he had been a patient for two weeks. Mr. Lyle had been a railroad worker of thirty-two years before his retirement in 1934. He had resided in the Shipman vicinity until moving to Gillespie about two and one half years ago. The decedent was a son of the late Thomas and Agnes Cairns Lyle and was born in Jersey county. He was married to Alice Harris on 19 Nov. 1913. Surviving the aged man in addition to his wife are two sons, William, at home, Ann Leroy of Fidelity; three daughters, Mrs. Alberta Vessel and Mrs. Agnes Flackus, Both of Harford, and Mrs. Mildred Thaxton of Greenfield; seven grandchildren, and a brother, Alex Lyle, of Piasa. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, 6 April at two thirty o'clock at the Mt. Zion Baptist church with Rev. W. G. Wodicker officiating. Interment was in Shipman cemetery.

Unknown newspaper, 1952: "Died Saturday in nursing home": Alexander Lyles, seventy-two year old resident of the Medora vicinity died Saturday, 6 Dec. at the Jerseyville nursing home where he had been a patient for the past five weeks. Earlier he had been a patient at St. Joseph hospital in Alton for treatment following a paralytic stroke. The deceased was a son of the late Thomas W. and Agnes Cairns Lyles and was born in Piasa township, 18 Apr. 1880. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Lyles; two daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Howell of Granite City and Mrs. Mable Shafer of Jerseyville, and six grandchildren. One son, Leo, died in 1940. Mr. Lyles was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist church of Piasa and of the Modern Woodman of America Lodge. The body was at the Warner funeral home where friends called. Services were held at two o'clock Monday afternoon and interment was in the Medora cemetery.

She was born in Piasa, Illinois on September 5, 1935, one of three children born to Ira "Jack" and Mable Marie (Lyles) Shafer. Gail graduated in 1953 from Jersey Community High School, and soon married Franklin Arthur "Cork" Armstrong on May 13, 1954 in Tacoma, Washington. Together, they were one week shy of celebrating their 42 wedding anniversary, prior to his unexpected death on May 7, 1996. They were the parents of five children and were well known proprietors of Cork & Gail's Lake Westside Tavern in Jerseyville for many years. Surviving are her five children and their spouses, Mitzi and Scott Groppel of Eldred, Marci and Mark Cerasi of Charles Town, West Virginia, Dennis Armstrong of Jerseyville, Myrna Armstrong, and her partner, Claudia Norris of Kane, and Darren Armstrong of Jerseyville; four grandchildren, Danielle Grimsley and her husband, Damon of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Heath Groppel of Eldred, Ethan Armstrong of Jerseyville, and Kira Cerasi of Petaluma, California; a great-grandson, Ryder. In addition to her parents, and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Shafer and Johnny Shafer. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday, July 29, at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 20. Father William Hembrow will officiate. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to the Riverbend Area Humane Shelter in Jerseyville.
