He married Christina Youngblood born 3-26-1835 in Hesse, Dramstadt, Germany, died 3-6-1893 in Jersey Co., IL, daughter of Georg Wilhelm Jungblut (1818-1905) and Catherine Elisabetha Rintel. They were married 2-16-1857 in Jersey Co., IL, and both are buried at Fieldon Cemetery, Richwood Township, Jersey County, IL. Charles Louis Schaaf was a son of Charles (Karl) and Charlotte Augusta (Busch) Schaaf both born in Hanover, Germany. Mr. George H. Youngblood, a well known resident of North Alton, died at the family home Friday evening at 6:20, aged 70 years. Mr. Youngblood was born in Hesse Darmstadt, Germany, and came to this country when 13 years of age and settled in New Jersey. The following year he came west and took up his residence near Elsah on a farm. In 1880 he moved his family to Joplin, Mo., where he started a livery stable. Later he returned to North Alton and lived the last ten years of his life. Twelve years ago he was stricken with paralysis as the result of being shot during the war while attempting to arrest some Knights of the Golden Circle near Newbern. Mr. Youngblood was then a constable. He became helpless during the last ten years of his life. He leaves eight children, five sons and three daughters, all grown: George, Louis, William, Jacob and Frank Youngblood, of North Alton, Mrs Albert (sic) Carman, of Joplin, Mo., Mrs. J.M. Robinson, of Texas, and Mrs. Richard Strong of North Alton. The funeral will be from the family home on Sunday to the Evangelical church, services will be held at both places and interment will be to city Cemetery. He was a son of Georg Wilhelm Jungblut (1818-1905) buried Altenhelm Cemetery, Forest Park, Cook Co., IL & Catherine Elisabetha Rintel (1818- ___). He married 5-1-1851 to Catherine Heil (1835-1896) at Baden, Germany. Children: George William Youngblood (1852 - 1914); Louis Franklin Youngblood (1854 - 1925); William Henry Youngblood (1859 - 1929); Edwin Farley Youngblood (1862 - 1898); Louisa Sophia (Youngblood) Robinson (1863 - 1913); Ellen Jane (Youngblood) Carman (1866 - 1944); John Jacob Youngblood (1868 - 1938); Benjamin Franklin Youngblood (1872 - 1938); Anna Maria (Youngblood) Strong (1874 - ____); and Julia A. Powers. ------------- (1a) Joshua and Emma (Schaaf) Powers's daughter Effie Mae (Powers) Kadell's obituary - KADELL. 17 aug 1961: Mrs. Effie Mae Kadell who resided at 111 Walton Street, Jerseyville, died at nine-thirty o'clock Tuesday morning, August 15 at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Ferris in Jacksonville where she had been the past seventeen days. The body was brought to Jacoby Brothers funeral home where Christian Science services will be held at two o'clock this (Thursday) afternoon with Mrs. Jennie Mai Johnson of Elsah as reader. Interment will be in the Grimes-Neely cemetery. Mrs. Kadell was born in Nutwood, 4 March 1894, a daughter of the late Joshua and Emma Schaaf Powers, and her age at the time of death was sixty-seven years, five months, and eleven days. Her husband, Frank A. Kadell, preceded her in death. Surviving Mrs. Kadell are three daughters, Mrs. Priscilla Ferris of Jacksonville, Miss Ann Kadell of Chicago, Mrs. Patsy McCoy of Jerseyville; one son, Richard Kadell of Jerseyville; five grandchildren, one great granddaughter; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Kennedy of Jerseyville and Mrs. William Lafleur of Fieldon and one brother, William J. Powers of Yuba City , CA. The decedent was a charter member of the Christian Science church in Jerseyville. ------------- (1aa) Frank A. and effie M. (Powers) Kadell's son Richard "pat" Kadell's obituary - Jerseyville - Richard "pat" Kadell, 65, died at 9:20 a.m. tuesday,19 March 1991, at christian hospital northwest in St. Louis county. For 37 years he was a rural mail carrier, retiring in 1980 and was later engaged in farming. He was a u.s. marine World War II veteran. Memberships included the Jerseyville American Legion post 492, Jerseyville VFW post 4528, national rifle association and disabled american veterans. Born in Jerseyville, he was a son of the late Frank A. and effie M.(Powers) Kadell. On 12 September 1951, he married doris breitweiser in Jerseyville. She survives. (Thompson) Neumann Long's obituary - Dorothy L. Neumann Long, 92, passed away at 1:30 pm on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Jerseyville Manor Nursing Home in Jerseyville. She was born on September 23, 1918 in Jersey County, IL, the daughter of William M. and Edith Mae (Medford) Thompson Dorothy married Edward T. Neumann on March 14, 1937 at Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto and they were very active in the church, the community and loved dancing. He passed away on May 2, 1978. She married Henry L. Long on September 6, 1981. She and Henry were married in the chapel at Zion by Pastor Liefer and enjoyed traveling and snowbirding first in Arizona and then in Florida. He passed away on March 9, 2005. She was a bookkeeper for CB & W Transport in South Roxana retiring in 1980. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Bethalto and one of the charter members of the Zion Ladies Aid. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Gene Helmkamp of Bethalto; a son and daughter-in-law, Gary & Shari Neumann of Glen Carbon; grandchildren and their spouses, Todd Helmkamp of Bethalto, Michael and Randi Helmkamp of Moro, Wendy and Max Jones of Alton, E8 Scott and Rebecca Neumann stationed with the Navy in Japan and Misty Neumann of Wood River; eleven great grandchildren; one great, great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Anna May Medford of Fieldon were held at one-thirty o/clock Sunday at the Jacoby Brothers Funeral home. Rev. The death of Mrs. Medford, widow of Beman Medford, occurred at two forty-five pm Thursday at Greenlawn Nursing Home just thirteen days after her eighty first birthday anniversary. Mrs. Medford, a lifelong resident of Jersey County, was a daughter of the late John and Rose Weeks Cooper. Her survivors are one sister, Bertha Cooper of Fieldon, one brother, Robert Cooper of Jerseyville, and nieces and nephews. She is buried in Grimes-Neely Cemetery, English Township, Jersey County, IL. She married James Douglas Powers 1-26-1885 in Jersey County, IL. He was a son of Lawrence and Rebecca (Neely) Powers. He was born 8-3-1858 and died 10-13-1934. Born in Jerseyville on 30 January 1921 he was the son of the late Lewis and Goldie (Devening) Powers. He married the former Catherine M. He was born Aug. 13, 1922, in Fieldon to Lewis Charles and Goldie Marie (Devening) Powers. He married the former Willrene "Billie" Moore on March 22, 1945, in Jacksonville, Fla. She survives. A 1940 graduate of Jersey Township High School, he served his country with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Formerly of the Fieldon area, he began working on the family farm near Fieldon, where he worked for many years before retiring and moving to Jerseyville. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and was a loyal member of the Fieldon United Church of Christ. In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Lewis L. Powers of Jerseyville; two daughters and one son-in-law, Beverly Morrison of Taylorville, Ill., and Rebecca and Clyde Anderson of Richmond, Ill.; six grandchildren, Matthew and his wife, Angie, Benjamin and his wife, Sarah, Steven Morrison and Kristen, Erika and Stanley Anderson; four great-grandchildren, Riley, Reagan, Emily and Owen Morrison; and one brother, Charles Powers of Carrollton. Memorials may be given to the Fieldon United Church of Christ. ----------------- Kenneth L. Powers's wife Willrene B. "Billie" (Moore) Powers's obituary - Willrene B. "Billie" Powers, 81, died unexpectedly at 7:55 a.m. Sunday, June 22, 2008, at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville after suffering an apparent brain aneurysm. She was born Dec. 5, 1926, in Jacksonville, Fla., the daughter of Charles R. and Marguerite (Soder) Moore. She grew up in Jacksonville, Fla., and it was there that she met her future husband, Kenneth L. Powers, who was stationed with the U.S. Navy. They married on March 22, 1945, and he soon brought the city girl to Fieldon, where they established a home in the Fieldon bottoms where they farmed and raised their family of three children. They spent many happy years on the farm until moving to Jerseyville in 1992. They enjoyed 10 years in town together before he died Oct. 30, 2003. She was a loyal and active member of the Fieldon United Church of Christ for 63 years, as well as a 51-year member of the Jersey County Home Extension, where she served as secretary. In her younger years, she served as a 4-H leader for her children's groups and enjoyed utilizing her creative side, whether it was painting, flower arranging or gardening. She enjoyed traveling extensively with her husband and friends and was a consistent St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. Surviving are a son, Lewis Powers of Jerseyville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Beverly Morrison of Taylorville and Rebecca and Clyde Anderson of Richmond; six grandchildren and their spouses, Matthew and Angie Morrison, Benjamin and Sarah Morrison and Steven and Mindy Morrison, all of Taylorville, Kristen Anderson of Carol Stream, Erika Anderson, a student at the University of Illinois at Champaign, and Stan Anderson, a student at Illinois State University at Normal; five great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Kendall and Gladys Moore of Virginia. She was born in Hardin on April 27, 1934, one of three children born to the late Ernest and Rose M. (Schleeper) Thompson. As a young girl, she attended grade school in Hardin and graduated from Jersey Community High School in Jerseyville. A resident of Hardin for many years, she retired from Calhoun County Ford and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, both in Hardin. She was a very active and social person and she always enjoyed being on the go. She loved spending time with family and friends and, in her quiet times, enjoyed gardening, quilting and crocheting. She was formerly married to Charles Powers and surviving are their three daughters and their husbands, Connie and Rick Adcock of Kampsville and Marsha and Rick Zippich and Sandy and Tom Sawyer, all of Fieldon; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Kay Thompson of Jerseyville; and a sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Barry Ritter of Jerseyville. Memorials may be made to St. Norbert's Catholic School or to the Auxiliary House at St. Louis University Hospital. ------------- Lewis and Goldie (Devening) Powers's son Charles Powers's wife Helen Marie (Thompson) Powers's sister Virginia Rose (Thompson) Ritter's obituary - Virginia Rose Ritter, 86, died at 8:20 p.m., Friday, November 24, 2017 at the Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Virginia Rose, or Ginny, as she known to family and friends, was born in Hardin, Il. on March 2, 1931, one of three children born to Ernest and Rose M. (Schleeper) Thompson. Her family moved to the Rosedale area where she attended the one room Teneriffe Grade School, continuing on to be a member of the 1948 graduating class from Hardin High School. She then moved into Jerseyville, where she began working at the International Shoe Factory. She then married John Barry Ritter on April 24, 1950 at the St. Norbert's Catholic Church in Hardin, and the two soon began their family, consisting of nine children. She was a dedicated wife, mother and homemaker, but still managed to find time to enjoy dancing at Busch's and the Elk's Lodge, participating on the Busch's Farm softball and bowling teams and being a part of the Ladies Card Club. She and Barry were avid travelers, visiting nearly every country in Europe. Her most cherished travels were to Europe with her in-laws and to Branson, Mo, with her sister, Helen. In her later years, she took language and arts classes and became quite computer savvy. She loved playing cards with "the girls" and playing dominoes with close friends. Ginny was a devout member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Jerseyville, and served on numerous committees, including the Altar Society and always found time to volunteer at the Jersey Community Hospital Resale Shop. In 1980, she became co-owner and co-manager of the 518 South Restaurant in Jerseyville. She was a respected member of the business community and built many lasting relationships that she treasured, and will long be remembered. She was a lady of tremendous grace and class, and was as beautiful on the inside and she was on the outside, in the truest form. She was born in Jersey County on April 18, 1925, and was the daughter of the late Paul William & Sarah (Schaaf) Burrows. June graduated from Jersey Township High School, and worked at the International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville for a short time prior to her marriage. A woman of deep faith, she was a member of the Holy Ghost Catholic Church, and was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She married Maurice Eugene Meuth on April 21, 1945 at the Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Jerseyille, and the two shared 66 years together centered around faith, family and farm life, before his death on April 25, 2011. Surviving are a daughter & son in law, Jean & Carl Gilman of Fieldon; a son & daughter in law, Mike & Pat Meuth of Jerseyville; six grandchildren & their spouses, Julie & Rex Schofield of Carrollton, Susan & Kevin Ayres of Jerseyville, David Gilman of Fieldon, Jennifer & David Fink of Jerseyville, Stacey Meuth of White Hall, and Mary & Matt Capps of Jerseyville; 10 great grandchildren, Haley, Eric, Megan, Molly, Madelynn, John, Ben, Emily, Cory & Ethan; and a brother, Bill Burrows of Rockbridge. He was born in Jersey County on Feb. 3, 1936, to the late John and Gladys (Henson) Springman. A U.S. Army veteran, Stan graduated from Jersey Community High School in 1956, later joining the U.S. Army with his friend Lester Weller on a Buddy Plan. After returning home in 1959, he married Joann Kallal in July 1960 in Jerseyville and they had three children together. He worked several different jobs in his time, working for Doug Smith on a feed truck, Ralph Russell Construction, Jerseyville Street Dept., J.C.C. Construction and retired Local Labor Union. After retiring, he lived with and took care of his mother until her death in 2008. He also was a member of Jerseyville Elks Lodge No. 954 and Jerseyville American Legion Post No. 492. Edward Louis Wiist, 54, well known farmer of the Fieldon area, was found crushed beneath a tractor on which he had been working on in a shed at the farm. He had gone from the house around noon to work with some hogs at the farm. When he failed to return for the evening meal members of his family startled looking for him, and a neighbor, Herbert Thomas joined the search. Mr Thomas found Mr Wiist pinioned beneath the tractor. It is believed that the decedent had started to do some work on the heavy piece of machinery and that a jack which had been used to elevate the front end of it had slipped causing the fatal accident. Mr Wiist was born in Fieldon, September 3, 1908, a son of the late William & Theresa (Walz) Wiist. He would have been 55 in 1 month. She elected to be a stay at home Mom and care for her children and home until 1975, at which time she began working in the Dietary Department at Alton Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1998 after 23 years of service. He is survived by his widow, the former Mary Lou Healey whom he married 26 October 1946 in Jerseyville; three sons, Frank of Alton, Steve and Jamie, at home; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Linda) Blaine of Godfrey and Mrs. Ronald (Lavonne) King of Delhi and Melea Kanallakan, at home; five grandchildren; his mother; 1 brother, Roger Crone of Alton; and a sister, Mrs. Gladys Day of Godfrey. He was born June 4, 1950, in Carrollton to Colonel and Ida (Brueggemann) Healey. He married the former Kathy Voorhees on May 30, 1970. She survives. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1970 to 1977. He was an avionics supervisor for the Missouri Air National Guard and graduated from Columbia College with a B.S. in business management in 1982. He retired from the Air National Guard with the rank of senior master sergeant in 1988. After retirement, he enjoyed gardening, spending time with his grandchildren, playing cards and NASCAR. Not a man of many words, but he was always there for anyone who ever needed help without question. Caspar Heinrich "Henry" Schaaf was a brother to Johann Friedrich Schaaf (1805-1880), and also possibly a brother to Charles (Karl) Schaaf (born 1794-died bet. !870 & 1880) of Jersey County, Illinois. He built the first flour mill in Warren County, Missouri. He married Louise Catharina Huxoll (1809 - 1887), and they had these children: Anna Maria Schaaf Bierbaum (1829 - 1912); Caroline Schaaf Wencker (1832 - 1892); Christina Marie Schaaf Muench (1834 - 1866); Christopher Henry Schaaf (1839 - 1901); Heinrich C. Schaaf (1840 - 1886); Elisabeth Schaaf Muench (1843 - 1895); Louise Schaaf Koch (1845 - 1929); and Wilhelm C. Schaaf (1847 - 1862). (Note: Bierbaum's Steam Grist and Saw Mill - An old mill in the central-east part of Charrette Township, on Emmaus Creek. It was earlier known as the Schaaf Mill in honor of C.H. Schaaf, who started the mill in 1841 or 1843 as the first horse mill in the county. In about five years, he changed to an ox mill, which he ran for nearly twenty years.
