The pattern for this fly, which was originated by Walt Balek of Spokane, Washington came from the fine book by Dick Stewart and Farrow Allen, Flies for Steelhead. They write that this fly works well in fall as winter approaches and water temperatures begin to drop. The body appears luminous on overcast days or in dark water, if tied as above-a thin layer of Flashabou over the floss core.
