Winter's Hope, Hairwing (McMillan)

Name Winter's Hope, Hairwing
Category Silver Salmon
Hook Size 1/0 and Larger
Body Flat Silver Tinsel
Hackle Two Turns of Turquoise Blue Hackle, Followed by Two Turns of Purple
Wing Orange Calf or Bucktail Over Yellow Calf or Bucktail
Topping A Few Strands of Olive Calf or Bucktail

The pattern for this fly, came from the fine book by Bruce Ferguson, Les Johnson, and Pat Trotter, Fly Fishing For Pacific Salmon. They write that this fly, originated by Bill McMillan, was originally developed for Winter Steelhead, but it has proven to be an effective Silver Salmon fly as well. This is the hairwing version of the Winter's Hope.
