In order to select the correct material for body covering, I literally use the actual stones and sand from the River. I place a few scoops into a jar and run these under a tap of water, stirring to clear water. Then I place these on a tray and dry the gravel in the oven. I put the gravel through a sieve to get the correct size of gravel particles. When I put the chenille on the hook shank I have to make allowance about how much I put on before covering with epoxy and covering the hook with the gravel particles. If the chenille is to thickly applied then the final result will lessen the hooking properties. So keep the body slim before applying the gravel. This one was prepared on a Kamasan Extra Long Shank Hook Size 8 and can also be made on a size 10. Also, on other Caddis Pupa Emergers, I have taken more time in selecting and building these patterns by using tiny bits of twigs etc.. like the natural and try to copy to the near exact appearance. There are many species of Caddis Pupa and different colouring of the Pupa itself, but I have greater success with making the Emerging Pupa Black/ Olive Green or Yellow.
