Steve Burke's Salmon and Steelhead Fly-Tying Guide
Leon's Pacific Appetiser
Originated and Tied By Leon Guthrie

Leons Pacific Appetiser
Name Leon's Pacific Appetiser
Category Pacific Salmon/Rainbow Trout
HookSalmon Single Low Water Size 4
BodyHook shank weighted with thin lead wire leaving space at hook bend. Take some VENIARD GLISTER SPARKLE DUBBING (RED) and tease out long strands a little at a time. Tie on for tail. Build tail to same level as the lead wire and now tie on some Gold Mylar Tinsel. Wind evenly only half way along hook shank and tie off. Now tie on a length of copper wire. Using more Glister Sparkle Dubbing (Red), take a large portion of the dubbing and stretch out to long length. Twist fibres and tie this on. Wind forward building large thorax and tie off near hook eye. Now tightly wind the copper wire, holding the dubbing in place. Make a neat head with Fire Orange thread. Now just use a Velcro Hook Tool and give the dubbing a very good rubbing to tease out all the fibres. Make as hairy as possible.
CommentsIt has been brought to my attention that some may find in difficult to obtain VENIARD Products in the United States, the use of the Glister Sparkle Dubbing is very popular for salmon flys and comes in all shades. Should you wish to obtain this material their address is:
