This version of
Doug Stewart's Max Canyon was tied by Salmonfly.Net Contributing Fly Tyer Eric
Martin. Dick Stewart and Farrow Allen write in
Flies for Steelhead that this fly was developed in 1972 at Mack's
Canyon on the Deschutes River by Doug Stewart. The story goes that the name was
purposely misspelled to draw attention away from Mack's Canyon, which was then,
and still is a very popular part of the lower Deschutes.
