Rain Baby--the CD "Rain
Baby" is comprised of fourteen original songs.
The title for the album came to Madeline in the summer of 1999. It is based on the idea that the music she had recorded reflects the musical influences she grew up with in the Puget Sound area. With this in mind, musicians in the community were invited to join her in the expression of her music. Over the years, Madeline had noticed a trend of production that seemed so processed-- to her, it emulated the sound of a machine. "No human plays in perfect time all the time." Her desire was to get music back to a feeling, and musicians back to music. She has categorized herself as an alternative folk/rock artist, because "folk music is about people...their lives...their feelings...their stories." The desired overall effect in her project was to make the listener feel as though he or she is sitting at a live performance. In some of her songs, one can picture where each musician or vocalist is positioned onstage, and how much fun they are having performing together. The lack of percussion or bass guitar in some of her songs was deliberate and important to achieving this live effect. Staged even down to the little nuances that occur in a live performance, Madeline found a way to make it "real."
