Rick "Cricket"
Gerth
Former Band
Member (2000-2001)
Blues Harp, Slide Guitar, Electric Guitar
One day in March 2000, I thought to myself, "I would like to have a harmonica player." Then I met Rick a week later in April of 2000 at the Antique Sandwich Company. The following week, we performed a song I had written, earlier that day, at the open mic. Rick played blues harp. It blew me away when he told me that he had only been playing blues harp since October of 1999. Then he told me he wanted to be my harmonica player. Talk about serendipity. We have since performed at many open mics in the area, as well as gigs.
His love for music is highly admirable, and his devotion to maintaining the heartfelt aspect of music is commendable. He loves to play country blues, finger style blues, and anyone who has heard him is truly amazed at his skill. He also is learning to play lap guitar, which is just as wonderful to watch and listen to as his country blues. It is hard to imagine he has only been playing for two years.
We have been working together on my new songs. Eventually, we will record them for another project, along with Red Rhys, and who else...? I'll have to wait and see on that.
Although I have known Rick Gerth a short time, I liked him and trusted him right off the bat. I feel as though we are siblings. And, I call him my brother. Sometimes Cricket. Okay, only a few of us get that. But, he certainly understands my music, and has the ability to add the right amount of "folk" to my songs that keeps my music where it belongs--right where it feels good inside--right at home.
