The farce surrounding the transfer of Marko Viduka continues, with Celtic maintaining that they will only pay Croatia Zagreb part of the three million pound transfer fee. The problem is caused by various clauses in Viduka's contract that he signed when moving from Australia to the Croatian club. It is alleged that he is entitled to 50% of the fee and that the Melbourne Knights are entitled to 20% thus leaving Croatia Zagreb with a mere 30%, or £900,000 which Fergus McCann is prepared to pay. This stance by Celtic cannot be condoned, there is a suggestion that Croatia Zagreb will not honour the terms of the contract and keep all the fee for themselves, this however is none of Celtic's business. The situation is clear, Celtic signed a player under contract to Croatia Zagreb, a fee of £3 million was set, Celtic should pay this money regardless of any problems that may develop subsequently. Rangers signed Daniel Prodan who has not kicked a ball in anger for the club, the money has been paid, it is surely the responsiblity of the purchaser to ensure they are happy with the terms and conditions of a deal. I beleive that once Viduka sorts himself out he may become the top striker in the SPL, reports from Australia are very promising and he looked very useful in the Champions League qualifiers against us. Celtic should focus upon utilising the asset they have purchased and honour the commitments they made to Croatia Zagreb. |
